Drunk High School Girls
From LoveToKnow Teens
When it comes to serious problems that can have lifelong effects, drunk high school girls have much more to worry about than a hangover the next day.
Teen Drinking Statistics
Teen drinking is nothing new. Like smoking cigarettes or experimenting with drugs, sneaking alcohol behind parents' backs is another way teens want to establish their independence and test boundaries. Unfortunately, teenagers often have the impression that nothing will happen to them, regardless of how irresponsible they are.
Some sobering teen drinking statistics include:
- About 74.3 percent of high school students have had an alcoholic drink at some point
- Approximately 28.5 percent had ridden in a car driven by a drunk driver within the past month
- Also, 25.5 percent of high school students reported binge drinking within the last 30 days
In addition, teen drinking is beginning earlier and earlier, with some 33.9 percent of ninth graders having their first drink before the age of 13.
Dangers for Drunk High School Girls
While drinking alcohol used to be an activity that mainly boys engaged in, teen girls have increasingly taken part in drinking, including binge drinking (defined as having five or more drinks on one occasion). Teen drinking is a danger for both girls and boys. These are some concerns that can affect drunk high school girls in a negative way:
Sexual Implications
- About 23.3 percent of high school students drank alcohol or abused drugs before their last sexual encounter, making them more vulnerable to irresponsible decisions such as not using protection or being intimate with someone they barely know.
- Girls who binge drink sometimes pass out and are unable to give consent to sexual activity, putting themselves at risk of sexual assault.
Brain and Physical Effects
Drinking alcohol also affects a teen's development.
- Since a person's brain continues to develop into the twenties, abusing alcohol during the teen years not only has an effect on intellectual development, but can also lead to addictive behaviors.
- A 2007 government study showed a correlation between binge drinking and poor grades, with nearly half of the students who reported drinking heavily also scoring mainly D's and F's on their report cards.
Drunk Driving
Every year, thousands of teens are either hurt or killed in car accidents due to drunk driving. Besides injuring oneself, a drunk driver can injure or kill passengers in the car and drivers and passengers in other cars. This can have a lifelong impact on many people, not just the teenage driver.
- Forty percent of fatal drunk driving crashes involve teenagers.
- A drunk teenage girl is 54 times more likely to suffer a single vehicle crash than her non-drinking peers.
What Parents Can Do
Even though many teenagers may behave as if they don't want their parents involved in their lives, young people look to their parents and caregivers for advice and support. Some things concerned parents can do to prevent teenage drinking include:
- Talk to kids about the dangers of alcohol abuse, especially for girls, who may become pregnant and/or contract an STD due to irresponsible behavior while drunk.
- Let your daughter know that she can always call you if she's too drunk to drive home or if whoever she rode with is drunk; many teens don't call their parents because they fear how their parents will react and risk lives by driving themselves. If she calls, remain calm, promising to talk over the situation when everyone is sober and calm, not on the night you bring her home. Maintaining a good relationship with your teen will go a long way toward getting her to open up and call you when needed. Spewing statistics rarely works with making an impact on dangers to young people.
No parent wants a teenager to suffer from addiction, abuse or assault due to drinking alcohol. Drunk high school girls risk a lot when drinking, including physical and psychological risks. By maintaining open lines of communication with your teen, you can help prevent her from becoming just another statistic.

Comments
Girls do not realize the consequences of getting drunk. Not only do you have a hangover, you may also contract a disease or be taken advantage of sexually. This is true for guys too but they are not the ones that could possibly get pregnant and have the lifelong responsibility of the baby. You may not even remember who you had sex with and most likely the guy will not admit to having intercourse with you especially if your pregnant. JUST BE CAREFUL!
