8th Grade Outfits
Reader Question
What are the best outfits to wear to eighth grade? Is it a good idea to wear a shirt under a halter top? If it's not, what is?

Advice from Melissa
Hi Sara:
Thank you for your question. There may be school rules about wearing halter tops, so I’d definitely see what those are before you go to any school function. In terms of general fashion… a lot depends on your body type. If you are full figured, halter tops can sometimes give out the wrong signal and may not be right for you. Since everyone’s body is different, I tend to go with clothes that make you feel really good about yourself.
You can always be really creative with accessories if you want to try new things, but sometimes 12-15 year olds can be quite judgmental with their comments. The key is having a lot of self-confidence. There are many magazines that have fashion ideas in them… you can look over these and also have “fashion dress rehearsal parties” with your friends. Sometimes it’s a good way to get their feedback, exchange fashion tips, and even swap clothes to share.
Have fun! ~~Melissa
Advice from Katie
Sara,
Honestly, I could not give you a list of "best outfits" to wear, because, as unhelpful as this may sound, you have to decide what works best for you, and that would be whatever is comfortable that you feel foxy in. However, I am of the opinion that, if you feel a halter is too revealing (for school or in general), you should probably just ditch it.
I am not a fan of the whole shirts-under-other-shirts thing. You end up looking like you couldn't decide what to wear and so went and wore everything in the entire world.
It is kind of like the skirts-over-pants thing. It never works.

Hi Michele,
If pictures from last year showed ties and shirts, that may be what is expected for this type of dance. You may want to call the school or a mother to one of your son's friends to see what he is wearing. That way, your son won't be dressed completely different from everyone else.

-- Contributed by: MicheleTry a pair of cute jeans under colorful skirt. Add a bright top, sneakers or flats and top it off with warm gold tone earrings and jewelery.
