Emo Clothes

From LoveToKnow Teens

Emo clothes are as distinctive as the teens that embrace this cultural phenomenon. Here’s how to get this unique look.

The emo look.

What is Emo?

Emo, short for “emotional”, is a phrase that is very descriptive of the music itself. Emotionally charged and raw, Emo’s musical roots began in 1983 after the band Minor Threat broke up. The Emo look and feel, however, is still going strong. So much so in fact, that it is today a cultural phenomenon that few adults understand.

The Emo Style

Before we take a look at some specific Emo clothes, here’s a general list of the Emo style:

  • Capture the Emo Romulan look with short, thick, dyed black hair. Cut bangs straight across the forehead and high above the ears.
  • Consider having bangs in front and spikes in the back.
  • Wear horn-rimmed glasses, or at the very least, glasses with thick black frames.
  • Guys can try shaving their heads and growing a beard. Complete this look with the horn-rimmed look above.
  • Wear heavy slacks that are too tight, and occasionally, too short.
  • Too small polyester button-ups in dark colors look great, or try children’s size tee shirts with random slogans.
  • For footwear, consider clunky black shoes.
  • It’s not uncommon for boys to wear barrettes.
  • Makeup works on both boys and girls when it comes to Emo style.
  • Too small cardigans and v-neck sweaters always look great.
  • Wear anything in argyle.

Emo Clothes for Girls

The most popular look for Emo girls at the moment are tight tee shirts or tanks with random slogans. Pants tend to be heavy and tight, while socks should be colorful and attention grabbing. Try Silvein Clothing for your Emo clothes. Among their looks are Girls Skinny Fit T Shirts. Silvein clothing has nine different tee shirts you can choose from. Consider their:

  • Girls Skeleton Grey: This tee shirt is done in a soft heather grey, a look that successfully belies the skeleton housed on the right, next to the words “We Walk Alone”. Expected cost is estimated at around $11.00.
  • Bat Wings Girls T-Shirt: This black tee features the Silvein clothing logo surrounded by white bat wings. You can expect to pay about $11.00 for this look.
  • Dove Girls T-shirt: Emo girls who like to take a softer approach when dressing will appreciate this Doves tee shirt. This is a black tee with pink and white doves on the bottom right side of the shirt. The look is still very Emo, but has the softer feel of romance.
  • Plain Silvien Jacket: This form fitting jacket has the feel of a sweater with all the attributes of a jacket. Only one color, black, is available in this look. You can expect to pay about $20.00 for this jacket.

Additionally, several styles of hoodies, or hooded sweatshirts are available. Colors range from grey to blue at a price of around $25.00,

Clothing For the Guys

For the guys, we’ll turn to Darkside Clothing, an on line website with a wide range of Emo looks. Try the:

  • V Guitar T Shirt

This black tee shirt features a large grey guitar with dramatic swirls around it. Short sleeved and made of heavyweight cotton; you can expect to pay about $20.00 for this look.

  • Frankenstein Black T Shirt

This Frankenstein black tee shirt features the creature in an almost neon colored lime green, and features the “love” symbol. This look is a bit more expensive at $25.00.

  • Kiss of Death Black T Shirt

This shirt is rather charming with the bride of Frankenstein blowing a kiss that gives way to a puff of skulls and pink hearts. You can expect to pay about $25.00 for this look.

Many different hoodie looks are available on the site and they include the following categories:

  • Vamps Pullover Hoods
  • XXL Pullover Hoods
  • Occult Pullover Hoods
  • Darkside Evil Pullover Hoods
  • Tribal Pullover Hoods

Additionally, you can find skinny jeans, zip jackets and work shirts on this site. In the zip jacket category, try:

  • Green Star Splat Men's Zip Jacket: This colored zip jacket features two front pockets with neon stars (in an assortment of colors) floating upwards. You can expect to pay about $35.00 (and up) for this look.

A Final Note

Many of the Emo clothes featured on the above sites sell looks that have assorted images of weaponry, like guns, switchblades, and the like. To prevent unwanted attention, and in the wake of recent school shootings, check you school’s policy on wearing tee shirts with violent messages and/or images. This way you’ll be able to sport the look you love without any unintended consequences..

Hi Jessica, Try thrift stores to find interesting clothing. You can spend $50 or less and walk away with an entire wardrobe. Try shopping thrift stores several times a month for the best selection- you could even ask what days they get their new shipments in so you can be the first to check out the new stuff.
