Fall 2007 Fashion Trends: The Basics
Trends come and go, but there are some basic rules you can rely on for every fall season. Here’s the low-down:
| Fall Basic | Description |
| Jeans | This pretty much goes without saying, but investing heavily in jeans will give you the right fashion look for almost everyday of the week. Jeans are incredibly versatile, and because you can pair them with just about any top, you know you’ll get a ton of fashion mileage out of them. When shopping for the perfect pair, focus on the following:
Make sure this pair fits you correctly and strive to get it in that classic shade of blue.
These are your traditional “skinny” jeans. You’ll want to work this into your wardrobe; they go great with chunky, oversized sweaters and knee high length boots.
Try to have at least one pair of dark denim jeans. They can even be in black. These are great to have because they can easily be dressed up. One hot trend spotted for fall 2007 is the zippered look. These jeans feature a zipper on the side that can be completely closed or zipped all the way up. |
| Sweaters |
Chunky oversized sweaters are a must for the fall 2007 fashion trends. What else are you going to pair with those skinny jeans and riding boots? The key to the right sweater is looking for a textured fabric. Think wool-knit and old English cottage chic to get the right idea.
You’ll want to have at least a couple of form fitting sweaters in a variety of colors. Of course you’ll have the basic black, blue and cream, but don’t forget to play with color. Bold fuchsia, baby blue and rich purple all get high marks for fall.
There are no hard and fast fashion rules to play by here. Go with whatever makes you feel most comfortable and remember that proportions are what fashion is really all about. As long as your proportions are in sync, you’ll look good in either. |
| Boots | These are a must have item in the fall fashion world! We’ll get to what’s hot this fall for boots in a second, but suffice it to say that it’s worth having a few pairs in varying lengths that you’ll be comfortable enough to live in. |
For The Girls
Now that we’ve got your basics covered, it’s time for the good stuff! Here are the hottest fall 2007 fashion trends.
Biker Chic
Biker chic is big and it’s better than ever. Why go through the trouble of raising hell when you can just look like you do? The best way to incorporate this look is to go with the metal bomber biker jacket. Investing in this jacket will allow you to keep your look fairly simple, through a combination of jeans and boots, but you’ll still give off that edgy vibe.
Superhero to The Rescue
This one’s straight out of Teen Vogue and the word on the street is that the Superhero look is hot! Get this look through metallic leggings, slick windbreakers and lots and lots of primary hues.
Lace-Up Booties
Remember what we said about boots being a staple of any fall fashion wardrobe? Well this year, boots take a sharp feminine turn, thanks in small part to these lace-up booties. Romantic and chic, these boots are the perfect compliment to those metallic Superhero tights.
Wide Legged Jeans
Right along with the new zippered jean look, is the wide legged jeans look. These wide legged jeans are a welcome reprieve from the ultra skinny, low-rider jeans look of fall seasons past. These jeans are perfect in a darker hue.
Blazers
Here’s a trend we can all welcome: blazers! Blazers look especially good paired with jeans or trouser pants, so let your imagination run riot as you shop. Whether you like them in tweed or corduroy, you’ll look great in this trend.
For The Guys
Guys, you can look great too this fall! For the most part, men’s fashion styles vary little from year to year, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t overall trends you can incorporate into your fashion look. Some of these trends include:
Purple
Not since the Purple One have we seen such resurgence in the color purple! Perhaps Prince was on to something, as this color was liberally used on runways throughout the world. Incorporate this looks through comfortable long-sleeved tees and scarves.
Chunky Scarves
Speaking of scarves, this year it’s all about the chunky scarf. Think knitted fabrics in bold colors or steel grey and soft brown. Keep the look fresh by pairing these fashionable scarves with clean lines, like a sport coat or jacket.
Peacoats
Peacoats have never really gone out of style, but they are truly everywhere this fall. If basic black leaves you feeling uninspired, then consider purchasing one in gray or navy blue.
Cardigans
If you associate cardigans with images of grandpa, it’s time to rethink the look. Remember Kurt Cobain’s last performance on MTV in his grey cardigan? This look is along those rocker chic lines. Pair yours with the ever popular graphic tee and jeans for a cool look this fall.
Accessories
As last, we’ve come to accessories; the perfect way to complete any of these trendy ensembles. Besides bold tights, wool knit caps and glasses with bold frames have been spotted on fashion runways throughout the world.
Have fun trying out these looks, but remember to wear one trend at a time. The worst thing you can do is to pile on every trend at the same time! Don that wool cap, or throw on the biker chic metal jacket and get going- you look great!
