Graduation Pranks

From LoveToKnow Teens

Graduation pranks often play a major role in the last few days or weeks before graduation. While some pranks are harmless fun, others actually do damage to property or others. Can you create the perfect graduation prank that is all in good fun?

The Purpose

What is the purpose of a prank at graduation? For most, the ultimate goal is to create a memorable legacy that will be talked about by class members and even underclassmen for days, weeks, and even years to come. Graduation pranks should echo the school spirit that has followed you and your classmates throughout your academic career. You can't pull off a prank overnight, however. If you really want to create the perfect prank during graduation, you'll need to do the following:

  • Create a planning committee

Get together with other classmates and brainstorm some of your prank ideas. Choose one or two people to be the head of the planning committee. Assign roles for each member to be responsible for.

  • Be creative

While it's easy to copy last year's prank, be creative! Look for new ideas that haven't been done before…at least at your school.

  • Stay organized

It's easy to veer off in the wrong direction when you are in the middle of planning an activity. Stay focused and organized.

  • Don't be stupid

Be prepared for those who throw out ideas that are harmful to others or dangerous to you and your classmates. You need to have someone in charge who is practical, logical, and cautious. While it's great to have fun, nobody should get hurt.

  • Don't forget to clean up

Before the prank is performed, be sure you have several people who will be in charge of cleaning up any messes that might occur.

  • Involve adults

While you may have problems getting an adult to help, if you explain the procedure of the prank, he or she may agree, and this should keep all the activities on a safer level.

What to Avoid

While pranks are often good, clean fun, some go too far and end up involving vandalism, bodily injury, hurt feelings and even crimes. What should you avoid during graduation pranks?

  • Vandalism or destruction of property
  • Ridiculing of others, including faculty, staff, and classmates
  • Contaminates, including those in foods, drinks, etc.
  • Flammable stunts, including fireworks
  • False alarms, such as bomb threats and fire alarms
  • Animal cruelty
  • Risky behavior such as blocking emergency exits or any other exits; placing slippery substances on floors, stairs; or anything illegal, such as activities involving alcohol, drugs, tobacco, pornography, etc.

Fun Graduation Pranks

Graduation pranks can be found all over the Internet. Some of them are hilarious; others are corny, and others aren't very funny. The following is a list of graduation prank suggestions that might work for you and your classmates.

  • Alarm clock melody

Hide alarm clocks everywhere in the school, such as teachers' desks, cafeteria tables, lockers, ceiling tiles, heating/air conditioning vents, etc. Set the clocks so that each one goes off about five minutes or so after another one.

  • Campout

Invite the entire senior class to set up tents all over the campus lawn and spend the night.

  • Cricket chaos

Purchase several hundred crickets at a bait shop, and just before a class change, release the crickets in the halls.

  • Fountain floats

If your school features a fountain, fill it with soap bubbles or add hundreds of rubber ducks in the early morning hours before school begins.

  • Parking lot lunacy

Encircle the school with the parked cars of seniors. Be sure and park so closely that others can't pass through without climbing over or crawling through a car.

  • Petroleum jelly joke

Slather petroleum jelly on every outside doorknob in the school. Yuck!

  • Plastic wrap blast

Bring lots of plastic wrap to school and wrap the faculty members' and principal's vehicles in the plastic wrap, particularly around the doors and windows.

  • Principal pranks

Fill your principal's office with balloons, foam peanuts, Styrofoam balls, etc.

Some schools are more accepting of pranks than others. Think back to previous graduations, were there pranks and how did the school administration respond? Don't do anything that will cause you and any of your classmates to be hurt, suspended, expelled, or denied your diploma. It's just not worth it!
