Junior Prom Dresses
From LoveToKnow Teens
For many, it can be hard to find junior prom dresses. On the one hand, junior prom isn't as big of an event as senior prom is and teens are well aware that they'll need to buy another dress during one of the following years for senior prom. Those who have been dreaming of a special custom dress for prom may not even think junior prom is all too important. On the other hand, junior prom is a great chance to get dressed up and have fun with your friends. If you're looking for some great ideas for junior prom dresses that won't break the bank or be too fancy, keep reading for some tips!
Where To Look For Junior Prom Dresses
Since junior prom isn't the 'big' prom event, some girls don't even end up buying brand new dresses for the event. Here are some places you can get dresses that would be great for the event without spending a dime:
Your Closet
If you go to a high school that has a lot of formal dances, chances are you have a lot of fancy dresses that would be great for junior prom. You can wear your winter formal dress all over again--which works great if you loved it! You might even have dresses from going to weddings or other special events in your life.
Your Friend or Sister's Closet
If the idea of wearing a dress you've worn already doesn't appeal to you, consider looking in the closet of your sister or close friend. Just like you probably have old dresses in your closet, they probably do too. Older siblings might even have old prom dresses that they've bought and only wore once. You can always ask to borrow one of their outfits for the big night.
In fact, you get a bunch of your friends together, and have a giant junior prom dress exchange!
Bridesmaids
If any of your older siblings or relatives (or perhaps even yourself) have been bridesmaids in a wedding, they'll have a great fancy dress. Depending on the theme and style of the wedding, the dress might be just fancy enough for junior prom without being too much.
Buying a Dress
If buying a dress for junior prom makes the most sense for your situation, here are some tips for finding a great dress:
- Since many junior proms take place in the spring season, a simple summer dress might give you the comfort and sophistication you need without breaking the bank. Plus, since the dress won't be too fancy or adorned, you can wear it again during the summer!
- A similar idea that can give you an outfit for events beyond the junior prom is wearing separate pieces. A respectable top (such as a fancy tank or perhaps a nice sweater) and cute bottom (such as an A-line skirt or mini-skirt) can be special enough for the night, but can be broken up and worn in your daily wardrobe.
- Consider purchasing a great jacket for the event and pairing it with a cute, simple dress (either one you already own or one you decide to buy). The jacket can be worn throughout the season and can be used when you need to dress nicely for college interviews.
- Accessorizing a dress or two-piece ensemble can take any outfit from blah to wow. Consider purchasing a simple dress that can be worn time and time again and adding accessories to dress it up. You can use belts, jewelry, a bold purse, scarfs and more to turn up the volume on your outfit.
