Mini Model Girl

From LoveToKnow Teens

For those who don't know what a mini model girl is, a mini model girl is a young model ranging in age anywhere from a toddler, to a pre-teen girl. The mini model industry has become very popular among young children, as well as with pre-teens, who are often called "tweens". There are even reality television shows that feature mini models; the Oxygen television network features a show called Little Miss Perfect that is all about young girls who do modeling part time along with their sometimes overbearing mothers.

How to Become a Mini Model Girl

If you want to get into the modeling business, it's good to do it when you are young. The younger a model starts when she gets into the modeling business, the more exposure she will get with modeling agents and modeling companies. Many towns and cities offer modeling classes at their local YMCA, or youth community center. A modeling class is an excellent way to figure out if you really want to pursue modeling or not, since they usually are not very expensive, and they show you the ins and outs of being a mini model girl.

After you take some modeling classes and decide that you want to pursue a modeling career, or even that you just want to make a hobby out of it, then the next step to becoming a model is to enter yourself into some beauty pageants or fashion shows in your local area. These contests can sometimes get expensive in the more competitive shows, so pick an amateur show or contest to practice your modeling skills. Of course, you will need your parent's support and consent when trying to break into the modeling business. If you let them know you are really passionate about your dream, they will probably, at the very least, let you pursue a part time career, as long as you don't forget your other responsibilities to your school and your home. A few good tips for mini model girls are:

  • Don't get discouraged if you don't make it through an audition or casting call, there are always more opportunities waiting!
  • Have fun! If you don't love what you are doing, then you won't be successful at it.
  • Image isn't everything, even in modeling, don't stress about things you cannot change about yourself. Be sure to avoid eating and exercising disorders as well.
  • Get an agent if you think you want to get more serious in your modeling career.

For Parents

If your daughter has decided that she wants to become a mini model, and you have given her permission to chase her dream, be sure to look out for some important things:

  • Eating Disorders: Eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia are sadly very common causes of death among teenagers today. Some warning signs of an eating disorder may be; rapid weight loss, not eating, excessive exercising, or increased vomiting. If you keep an eye out for these signs, and always encourage your daughter to have a positive body image, then an eating disorder probably won't become an issue for your mini model.
  • Agents and Portfolios: When your child becomes more serious about their modeling career, you will want to get her a portfolio and hire an agent. A portfolio is a collection of headshots, and full body shots that will show off your daughter's talents as a model. An agent is necessary if you want to make modeling a career, since an agent knows all of the important details of the modeling business as well as where shows and auditions are held.

Mini modeling offers young girls an opportunity to feel special and make a little extra money of her own.
