Modest Teen Clothing
From LoveToKnow Teens
Sometimes modest teen clothing is the most flattering way to dress of all. Read on and discover how to dress modestly while still looking and feeling great.
Modest Teen Clothing
Images of a scarily, clean-shaven Britney and a scantily clad and recently divorced Jessica Simpson, pepper our teen magazines and dominate our airwaves. Sometimes, however, dressing modestly can give rise to certain fears. Let’s take a look at those fears and see if we can alleviate some, if not all, of them.
- Not feeling cool enough.
This is an easy fear to feel, especially when it seems that everyone looks so cool. The reality is that everyone has this fear and has felt this way at one time or another. Successfully combating this means recognizing that most people are very self-involved, and as such, spend the majority of their time focused on what they are wearing. For the most part, this leaves you off the hook.
- I’ll look boring.
This is a common misconception, but it is not necessarily so. Take Hilary Duff for example. She’s an extraordinary beauty who has successfully managed to make the transition from her preteen days, to her late teens. She’s done all of this while managing to be appropriately dressed for her age, and where applicable, the occasion. The point here is that you can wear modest teen clothing and still look terrific.
- The opposite sex won’t find me attractive.
It is true that people who dress immodestly get a lot of attention, but most of the time it’s negative attention. This kind of negativity, especially in the long run, can lead to a lot of unwanted attention and gossip. It’s much better then to dress appropriately and be liked for your personality and good looks, than to draw negative attention by wearing provocative clothing.
Wardrobe
Now we’re ready to take a look at some key pieces to add to your wardrobe for a fantastic, very non-boring look.
| Key Piece | What To Buy |
| Jeans | Jeans are a staple in any good wardrobe and can be dressed up or down to suit your needs. Have a few jeans in your wardrobe with different finishes.
|
| Skirts | For skirts, it’s all about cut and length. Modest dressing calls for skirts that fall, at the very least, to the knees. A-line cut skirts are universally flattering so shop accordingly. |
| Tops | These can be especially hard to shop for as everything on the market seems to be extremely tight, cut too low, or just plain see-through! Looser tops are quite flattering, especially when coupled with a v-neck, or sweetheart neckline. Color also plays a vital role in spicing things up; so don’t be afraid to go bold. |
How To Wear Jeans
Now that you have some key pieces in your wardrobe, let’s take a look at the best way to wear them.
- Pair jeans with a blazer and tank.
This look is incredibly polished and gets you noticed for all the right reasons. Add eye-catching accessories, like a pair of Jackie-O sunglasses, or a brightly colored pair of shoes, and you are good to go.
- Belts are also a great way to accessorize and accentuate perfectly cut jeans.
In choosing the right belt for an outfit, think big and let your personality run wild. Whether you choose a skinny belt, or an oversized wide one, you’ll be able to find one to suit your unique style.
- Jeans pop in eye-catching colors.
Go with a paler shade, like a light butter scotch yellow for spring and summer, and choose darker hues for fall and winter.
Skirts
Let 40’s fashion inspire you.
- Wear a knee length, or calve length skirt with a crisp work shirt tucked into the band. Add a wide belt to accentuate your waistline.
- Hosiery is another fun way to offset your skirt.
Consider patterned, colored, or textured tights to complete your look and compliment your skirt.
- Don’t forget your footwear. Mary Janes are always in style, as are eye-catching boots.
Tops
Choosing the right top has as much to do with the season as it does personal style.
- Turtlenecks look fabulous when paired with skirts or jeans during the winter and fall months. For the summer, consider lightweight fabrics in eye-catching shades.
- Choose tops that have exquisite detail, like built in ties, bows that flatter, or ribbons that tie around the waist.
- Hop onto the asymmetrical bandwagon. Expose just one area or choose a top that ends in an asymmetrical bottom.
Putting It All Together
Modest teen clothing comes down to one thing: personal style. Let your personality shine through the details of your clothing choices. Don’t be afraid to experiment with bold colors, and unusual cuts. When you feel the need to take your outfit up a notch, reach for bold accessories that are painted in vivid colors. Try matching red shoes to a red handbag, or wearing faux croc print belts with oversized sunglasses. Details like these will make your modest teen clothing outfits shine, no matter what you wear.

I reckon people who wear really revealing clothing are so not cool. I think that they are just looking for attention but not in a good way. A couple of days ago I was watching an episode of Sweet Sixteen and this 16 year old girl was wearing a dress which left nothing to the imagination. I really felt sorry for her because she didn't look cool at all! I think that your personality should so overpower what clothes you wear or what size you are . But that's just my opinion.

You both said 'nobody wears them'....who cares?? Just because people don't do it, doesn't mean they shouldn't.
I'm sorry but I refuse to follow the crowd and show my body to the world to get a date.
