Old High School Yearbooks
From LoveToKnow Teens
Old high school yearbooks are often difficult to track down, but you do have several options to aid you in your search.
Yearbook Uses
There are many reasons why people search for old high school yearbooks. For some, the urge to take a trip down memory lane hits a decade or two after graduation. For others, high school yearbooks are needed during the planning of a reunion or to document a historical event. Other reasons may include the following:
- Nostalgia
Maybe you are in search of your long lost buddies or you simply want to relive your glory days. Browsing through yearbooks is a great way to spend an afternoon in the past.
- Reunions
You can use Yearbooks in a number of ways for reunion planning. Some reunion planners display a variety of yearbooks on a table so that guests can take a look at how they and their classmates changed throughout the years. Others cut up photos from old yearbooks to display on bulletin boards or use them in slide shows played during the reunion. Some people use photos from yearbooks to play the "Guess Who?" game. Pictures are copied from the yearbook and displayed and guests must guess which picture belongs to which guest. This a great game for later reunions!
- Scrapbooks
Whether you want to create your own personal scrapbook, or you want to create a scrapbook to give to your classmates, yearbooks are a great resource!
- Finding people
Maybe you've lost track of others in your class or you've forgotten the name of your club president. A yearbook can prompt your memory and help you identify those whose names you can't quite come up with.
Finding Old High School Yearbooks
Regardless of why you want to track down old high school yearbooks, the hunt may not be so easy. However, to make your search easier, consider the following:
- Archives
Many schools maintain an archives section in the library or some other area of the school. While you may not be able to borrow the yearbook, you can certainly look at it, and you may be allowed to make copies of needed photos. In some cases, the yearbook staff may have held on to more recent copies of a yearbook, and you may be able to purchase these.
- Library
Your local library might have an extensive collection of old yearbooks.
- Classmates
If you are in touch with any of your old classmates, ask if any of them still have an old yearbook that you can borrow.
- Online
There are numerous websites devoted to helping you track down old classmates and old yearbooks. Before you dive into one of those, browse online at eBay and Craigslist.
