Getting college credit or a diploma online.

The Advantages of a HS Diploma Over a GED

Many people that don't finish high school regret it at some time in their life because they know that a GED isn't viewed as the same thing. Now with the Internet at your fingertips, you can go back in time and get that diploma you need to become a success.

Many teens that contemplate on dropping out of school look at the GED as something easy to fall back on and think it is just as good as a diploma. The truth is that the GED doesn't replace a diploma and employers do not weigh it as favorably as you may think.

Something else to consider is that jobs that accept a GED may not pay you as much as one that will only hire you with a diploma. According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2002 and Worldwide Learn, individuals that finished high school made on average $717 more each month compared to those who did not finish. Furthermore, 70% of people that have a diploma were more likely to have a job compared to those without one.

You may be wondering why a GED isn't viewed just the same as completing high school since it tests you on information you would have learned. Although the GED tests you on HS material (literature, math, social studies, writing, and science), it doesn't ensure that you have significant knowledge in those areas.

Employers want employees that will commit themselves to their work. When they see that someone did not follow through with school, they worry that the person may also not follow through with work. Even if you had to leave HS for a valid reason, an employer may still wonder why you didn't either go back or find another way to finish such as through online high school classes.

Getting Your Diploma through Online High School Classes

Internet HS Classes for College Credit

For students that are looking to get ahead, the Internet provides you with additional courses outside of regular class work that you might be able to apply as college credit. Not only will this prepare you for college work, but it may also help you graduate college earlier.

To find classes for college credit, contact the university you are interested in attending. They may have a special program for HS students. You can also go through different colleges, but keep in mind that every university is different, so make sure to find out whether the credits you earn will count by calling your intended university's administration office.

The Convenience of Internet Learning

When you decide to take classes online, you are embarking on a great learning adventure in the comfort of your home or office. You can do your course work when you have the time to do it, not when your class is scheduled. The only thing that is required of you is the dedication and commitment to sign on to your program and complete the assignments. As long as you keep up on the work, join in discussions, and ask the instructor for assistance when needed, you will be on your way to either receiving college credit or getting a high school diploma..
