Prom Decorations Ideas
From LoveToKnow Teens
The first thing you have to do when you begin looking for prom decorations, ideas and resources is to assemble a committee. Generally, a prom committee will have a faculty adviser who can facilitate for you. The second thing you need to do is figure out your budget and how much you have to spend on decorations. Once you have a committee, and a budget for the prom, you'll need a theme.
Low Budget Prom Decorations Ideas
So you have your budget and it's less than ideal? Never fear, you can still make your prom look really fantastic with some of these budget friendly ideas.
Enlist the Help of the School's Art Department
Need a backdrop for photos? Talk to the school's art department and see if the art department can't do something for you. This will be cheaper than buying a pre-made kit and it gets more people involved in the prom planning process.
Balloons, Balloons and More Balloons
You'd be surprised at what a dramatic effect the right color of balloons can have. Choose colors that compliment your theme and fill the gym with balloons. You can even purchase a couple of helium tanks for about $20 each and fill them up yourself.
Christmas Lights
Yes, you read that right--clear Christmas lights are a great way to light up a gym or less than ideal location for a prom. They wouldn't be cheap if you had to buy them all, but chances are good that if you asked each senior or junior to bring in some Christmas lights, you'd have enough to create a magical wonderland. Tag them with small colored tags that have numbers on them to separate them after the prom and help get them back to their rightful owners.
Medium Budget Decoration Ideas
You have some money to spend on decorations, but not a ton. Or you have a lot of money, but a huge space to decorate. Here are some prom decorations ideas especially for you!
Get Dramatic with Lights
You can purchase a variety of lights such as a couple of Disco balls, lights for the tables, or even black lights. Whichever you decide is most appropriate for your theme, you can be sure that adding lights to your decorations will make all the difference in how your prom looks!
Red Carpet Entrance
Greet prom goers with a grand entrance on a red carpet. You can rent or purchase them from a company that works with theater companies.
Attention to Details
Sometimes you can make a big difference by attention to small details. For example, having a nice place for pictures, decorating the chairs and tables where people sit or making sure that the DJ stand looks nice goes a long way towards making everything look special.
High Budget Ideas
You have money to spend and this is going to be the party of the century--here are some ideas for you.
Greenery and Flowers
While some themes may well lend themselves better to the idea of flowers or greenery, just about any prom room can look nice with the addition of some flowers or greenery. Centerpieces for tables or a trellis with ivy vines say that this is a sophisticated affair.
Fabric not Crepe Paper
The best time to find fabric that would be suitable for decorating a prom is after Halloween. Satins, glittery tulle, and similar type fabric can always be found on the clearance rack at this time. Instead of hanging crepe paper on the ceilings, create dramatic loops by hanging a roll of fabric from the ceiling.
Location, Location, Location
Maybe you have money to burn, but not time to decorate? Consider spending the bulk of your decorations budget on having your prom in a museum, the planetarium or some other equally exotic location. While these venues can run a little more expensive, you will hardly need to decorate (in fact you might only be allowed minimal decorations) because the scenery will already be so dramatic.
