Prom Look Wrist Corsage
From LoveToKnow Teens
For an elegant, yet practical, look, consider buying a prom look wrist corsage for your next formal event.
Corsage Confusion
A corsage is typically created using three or four fresh flowers, along with some baby's breath, and ribbon. The corsage is typically designed to match a dress or formal outfit. Most florists will offer three types of corsages for you to choose from, and these include the prom look wrist corsage, the pin-on corsage and the hand-held corsage.
Anyone who has ever tried to pin a corsage on herself or someone else knows how awkward and sometimes difficult it can be. Corsages aren't as popular today as they were a few decades ago. In the past, proms, homecoming dances, Mother's Day and other special events were often commemorated with corsages. While homecoming dances may have become more casual, proms usually still find beautifully clad teenage girls sporting corsages, and most prefer the prom look wrist corsage.
Since proms usually involve dancing and dresses are often strapless, keeping a traditional pin-on wrist corsage in place can be difficult and often impossible. Wrist corsages allow girls to either wear their corsage or simply pull it off and place it in a safe place until they want to wear it again.
Designing a Prom Look Wrist Corsage
Searching for a corsage for yourself or a date takes a little finesse. It's tradition for the corsage to match the dress, so you'll need to know what the color of the dress is before a corsage can be designed to match. However, if you need a last minute corsage and you don't have any idea what the dress looks like, then stick to a white or cream design, which should go with virtually anything.
- Flowers-When you head to the florist to pick out a flower, keep in mind that depending upon the season, some flowers may not be available. No longer are corsages relegated to just carnations or roses. In fact, popular flower choices today include Gerber daisies, lavender, lilies or orchids. The corsage you choose could feature one large flower or a combination of a variety of flowers in the same or coordinating colors.
- Ribbons-Once you've selected the flowers, it's time to pick out the ribbons. Your florist may offer you a selection of ribbons to choose from, but you can also leave this part to his or her discretion. After all, he or she has probably done this before!
- Embellishments-For additional elegance, other additions to the corsage could include lavender sprigs, baby's breath, tiny rose buds and more.
- Size-Believe it or not, one size does not fit all. Your florist will need to know how large the corsage needs to be and what size the elastic should be as well. The shape of the corsage you choose can lend some insight into the size you'll need. For an oblong corsage, size may not have as much bearing, since the flowers will follow the length of the arm. For a more rounded corsage, however, a bouquet of flowers that is too large can be bulky. If the corsage is for a child, you should let him or her know this as well. While you don't want the elastic to fit too tightly, it should be snug enough to be comfortable.
Purchasing a Corsage
There are numerous places that offer corsages for sale, and these probably include your local florists. You can also find a great selection of corsages online. The following sites will give you an idea of the various prom wrist corsages that are available:
