Teen Summer Clothes: Look and Feel Great!
Every teen wants to look great year round, but the summer can be especially important for fashion. Working at a summer job, volunteering with a group, or just hanging out with friends are all instances that call for the right wardrobe. Before we get started on the perfect teen summer clothes, let’s take a look at some fashion rules worth following.
- Comfort
No matter the trends of Milan or Paris, you’ll feel great in clothes that are comfortable (especially during the hot summer months) to wear. Save the trendiest pieces for accessories, like bags or shoes.
- Versatility
Invest in some versatile pieces you can wear year round, like tanks or khakis. This way, you’ll be able to incorporate these pieces into your fall look, and you’ll manage to stretch your budget and wardrobe at the same time.
- Be Appropriate
Nobody likes wearing a stuffy shirt and dress pants, especially during scorching ninety degree days, but if you happen to be an intern at an office, you just might. Be mindful of where you happen to be and dress appropriately for the occasion.
The Look
Now let’s take a look at some great pieces for teen girls and boys alike!
The Boys
Guys, in a lot of ways you have it pretty easy. Men’s clothing doesn’t change all that much from year to year, but it’s still good to look current in your dress. Let’s start with:
- T-Shirts
T-shirts are a prime investment because you can either wear them alone, or under a dress shirt. Buy a few of your standard white ones (so they don’t look obvious under other clothes) and then move on to some bolder looks. Think of T-shirts in fun colors, bold logos, and graphic prints.
- Pants
If you already have enough pairs of your basic jeans, think about buying one or two that are trendy in some way. For example, jeans with oversized pockets or a pair in an unusual color would work well.
Cargo pants, especially ones that can turn into shorts, are another great option. You can take these pants anywhere! Plus, they look super-cool on everyone.
When it comes to khakis, you can probably get away with just one pair. These pants are good to have on hand if you get invited to a party or if you have to go to a restaurant for a special occasion.
- Shorts
The only limits on shirts are your own personal tastes. Feel free to be inspired by colors or cuts and invest the bulk of your money here (along with T-shirts) for the obvious reasons.
Girls
Okay, ladies, it’s your turn. One of the best ways to begin your shopping list is by looking at possible scenarios that you may take part in. For example, will you be working? Hanging out? Spending most of your time beach or poolside? Thinking about questions like these will steer you in the general direction of where to spend most of your money.
- Tanks
Tanks are the ultimate summer staple and because of all the different colors and styles, you can never have too many. Get some that are v-necked and crew necked to give the look a little variety, and don’t forget to play with color! Fabric also plays a key role as you can go with ribbed tanks, cotton or Lycra. Let your imagination run wild.
- Shorts
Shorts are another area, because of all the different looks, that you can play around with. The best way to tackle this area is by looking at lengths. Buy a few that are short and a few that are a bit longer. This way, you’ll have more than enough pairs to suit your mood.
- Dresses
For dresses, buy one that can be dressed up and made fancy if you need to go somewhere nice. For all the others, it’s better to stick with looks that are versatile and that can be worn through the day.
Again, similar to tanks, consider your fabrics when it comes to teen skirts. Invest in some denim and some khaki. Doing this guarantees that you’ll never be caught without the right look.
A Word on Sandals
For guys and gals alike, footwear is important. Ladies, play with heel heights (but don’t forget to buy one really comfortable pair of flats) and guys, feel free to purchase a cool-looking pair of sandals as well.
Both guys and girls should have some cute running or tennis shoes on hand for moments when you have no time and literally have to run out the door. Summer, here you come!
