Trendy Teen Clothing

Skinny Jeans

Many teens feel that it's important to keep up with the trends. They want to be wearing whatever style is most in fashion at the moment. Whether that's a long maxi dress or a micro mini, you'll see it at the local high school. Educating yourself about current trends is a great way to stay on top of style shifts.

Top Trends in Teen Clothing

The following trends are popular with teens:

  • Maxi Dress - This style should have you reaching for an acoustic guitar and thinking of flower children. You'll see these long flowing dresses in bold patterns, as well as neutrals. A maxi dress is great paired with flip-flops or flat sandals.
  • Short Skirts - While the dresses are long, the skirts are short. They should be flouncy and light, in either tribal prints or neutrals. They'll go with nearly any type of shoe from a wedgie sandal to a flip-flop or flats.
  • Short Shorts
Shorts Shorts - Just as the skirts are short, so are the shorts, and the shorter the better. They're in all different shades of faded denim, as well as many other fabrics. Athletic shorts with a drawstring are just as short.
  • Skinny Jeans - While the shorts are short, the jeans are long and tight. Skinny jeans are in, and they look great whether you wear them casually or dress them up in a darker shade of blue. If you need your jeans to go over your shoes, wear skinny jeans with a flared leg. If you want them even tighter, try jeggings.
  • Capris - You'll find these mid-calf pants in the same tight, straight style as jeans, and they come in a darker blues and neutrals. They're either cuffed or have a drawstring at the bottom.
  • T-Shirts and Tank Tops - These never really go out of style; just the fit and print change. Teens are less likely to layer tanks than they used to be. Instead, they just wear them tight, sporting every different graphic design imaginable.
  • Ruffled Tops - These are very lightweight and are edged in ruffles. Sometimes if they are see-through, they can be layered over a tank or a cami. They go particularly well with skinny jeans or wedgies. A slight variation on this style is the baby doll tops that are reminiscent of flouncy pajama tops.
  • Roomy Poncho Tops - These tops are of a lightweight material and have sleeves that connect from the cuff down to the waist band. They're ultra-roomy, and often fall off the shoulder, making them great paired with a tank underneath.
  • Athletic Shoes - The Converse style athletic shoe is still trending, although now it's always a low-top. They're great with short shorts as well as skinny jeans.
  • Flip-flops and Flat Sandals - Flip-flops are always fashionable with teens, and you can wear them with nearly everything from jeans to dresses to shorts. They're always cheap, so everyone can get them in a multitude of styles and colors to go with individual outfits. If you want something slightly dressier, go with a flat sandal.
  • High Heel Pumps
Pumps with Ultra-High Heel - You might have to practice walking in them for awhile first, but everyone is wearing pumps with the highest heel they can stand and walk around in. They're always closed-toe or have just a slight opening, and they look great with skinny jeans, adding lots of length to a look.
  • Wedgies - In the 70s these were made of cork, but these days wedged heels are in cork and every other shoe material. They need to be a high heel, but not quite as high as the pumps. They're great with flared skinny jeans.
