About True Religion Jeans

Established in December 2002, True Religion Jeans were designed to take denim in a "refreshing new direction." Created by husband-and-wife designers Jeffrey and Kym Lubell, the Los Angeles-based denim company is popular because of its detailed-oriented jeans, from the "fashion-forward seams to the remarkable embroidery and innovative hand-sanded vintage washes." The couple combined his love of classic rock and her love of hip-hop and R & B to produce the trend setting line of apparel.

Sizes, Styles and Prices

These jeans are not for everyone. They don't come in petite or tall per se. They do come in with different inseams and in waist sizes 24-38 (about a women's size 4-18). Retailers carry these jeans in three washes -- dark, light and medium-- and five different fits:

  • Relaxed
  • Skinny
  • Straight
  • Boot cut
  • Flare

Even though prices may vary depending on where you shop, online True Religion Jeans cost between $172-$359 a pair for ladies and $150-$363 for guys. They come in nine styles:

  • Billy
  • Bobby
  • Joey
  • Johnny
  • Jennifer (women only)
  • Logan
  • Micky (women only)
  • Sammy (women only)
  • Tony

These jeans can only be described as completely original. Each style has numerous designs, such as the Joey Big T Rainbow, which has a bright and colorful embroidered buttoned back pocket. Mahakala embroidered Billy jeans are just that -- a stitched emblem of the Buddha of compassion and special protector of the Dalai Lamas on the back pocket. And then there's flower power -- Woodstock flare corduroy jeans that have bits and pieces of 1960s-ish flowers sewn throughout the pants. But that is what makes these jeans unique and their appeal strong. They are different from anything else out on the market, and their personalized touch is why they cost more than the average pair of jeans.

More Than Just Jeans

True Religion Jeans also has a maternity line and items for children. Besides jeans, the clothing line also includes:

  • Colored pants ($150-$275)
  • Teen skirts ($136-$165)
  • Shirts ($97-$101 for women; $174 for men)
  • Shorts ($150-$185)
  • Jackets ($172-$484 for women; $194-$539 for men)
  • Hoodies ($114-$143)
  • T-shirts ($88-$99 for women; $62 for men)

Who's Dressing Up Their Bottom Line?

These jeans have been featured in several movies, including Cake with Heather Graham, The Fog with Selma Blair and Dukes of Hazzard with Jessica Simpson. Other celebrities seen wearing True Religion Jeans include:

True Religion Jeans Closeouts

At a cost of up to six times more than the average price of a pair of Levi or MUDD jeans, these jeans definitely make a statement about style-- and what teenager doesn't want to be stylish? But in reality, these jeans aren't affordable by everyone. And for those who want to buy them (or rather have their parents buy them), you can find a good deal on True Religion Jeans closeouts. Just remember, if the deal sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. Make sure you buy authentic jeans and not a cheap knock-off. Check to make sure you see the actual designer label before purchasing and read the fine print about returns and exchanges.

Bargains on designer jeans can be found at:

  • On eBay, authentic True Religion Jeans can run you anywhere from $40 and up for new or used quality.
  • Women Designer Clothes sells many styles and designs of these jeans at around $150.
  • Designer Clothing & Appeal carries discounted designer jeans starting at $50.
  • Even Craigslist lists these jeans at a discounted price.

But Can Teens Afford Them?

When it comes right down to it, if a teen wants a pair of these jeans -- and if the parent wants to spend that much -- then they will get it. But the average American teen probably won't own a pair until they have a good-paying job. By that time, another trendy design may be hot on the market.
