Okay I've been thinking of bunches of Valentine's Day gifts for my buds, but I keep having to rethink since I keep telling myself this is too much or not good enough. Usually in my personal case, I love any gift people get me as long as it was originally intended for me or as long as it isn't some last minute gift. But I don't think people are like this. I think they want the best gifts so they can show off to everyone else. Do people even still believe in the phrase "It's the thought that counts"? Sweatthesmallstuff

For anyone who is truly your friend, it IS definitely the thought and not the cost of the gift that counts. Materialism is wrong on so many levels. If you simply get cards for your buddies, or make something to eat, or buy something (small) or just give a hug, there's no need to keep up with the Jones and outspend people just to "look good." Stick to your own values and choose your friends accordingly.

You don’t have to buy your friends big fancy things if they are really your friends. If they only want you to get the “best gifts” then they’re just using you and they suck. I didn’t even know Valentines day was a big gift giving holiday! When did this happen? Hmm…I firmly believe in candy. You can’t go wrong with candy. And if you want, you can make valentines. Don’t stress though, it shouldn’t be about the presents. (And if it is, it’s their problem, not yours).
