Until the Alabama Grad Test is phased out in 2015, there is a solution for students caught in this situation:

It is so sad when a student has earned all the credits required for graduation and then is denied a diploma based on an exit exam. I think it is totally unfair -- if they did the work, earned the credits, they should get the diploma!

I will be right up front with you -- I am director of an accredited private school which has opened a dept to work with students in this "failed exit exam" situation. If you and/or your child are caught in the exit exam horror, just google "The Oaks Private School", Fort Lauderdale, Fl. for further information Let me emphasize € this school is not a diploma mill. If your child did not do the work, he/she will NOT get a diploma from us!

We will be glad to speak personally with you to answer any questions and give you references. (toll-free phone number on website.)

Hi, my name is Brittney. I am trying to pass the graduation exam. I feel like the exams are very stressful, and hard. I feel like as a student, we have to take care of are GPA, and SAT,ACT in class work also to have a good background so we can get into college. This graduation exam is stoping like students, that want to go to college, but can't because they didnt pass the graduation exam or they havent pass all of the exam. I also feel like that is the reason why kids are dropping out because they think it's too hard and they aren't getting enough help. I feel like we shouldn't work hard and school because all it really come down too is the graduation exam.

Is it true that you only have to pass three of the 5 test and still get a diploma? I heard this.

Hi Kitty, Have you tried the *The Alabama Alternate Adult High School High School Diploma Option? Contact the Alabama Department of Education about this at (334) 353-4889. I would also speak with a guidance counselor about some tutoring for this exam for your son. Also, if he has some sort of learning disability, he may be eligible for some assistance in taking the exam.

My son passed all of his high school classes. He took the exit exam and passed all of it except history. He has went back several times to take it but still has not passed it. Is there anything he can do to get a diploma. Oh yea and he took the ged and failed it.

I finished school in 1996, but I missed my English exit by 2 pt.! Now 12 years later can I retake this part of the test? I had remedial English 9th through 11th grade. It didn't help much. Can you help me to a better future? Thanks, Matt.

Hi Octavia and Jkel, I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Hopefully you'll both pass the exam with flying colors. This is all part of the No Child Left Behind program. People in the business world who were trying to hire new employees were seeing high school graduates that couldn't do simple math or write a complete sentence, or read, for that matter. Try not to let this situation get in the way of you getting what you want out of life. When there is a will, there's a way. Get your GED if you have to- but don't let this exam stop you from achieving your true potential!

I also think that the Exit exam isn't necessary; because I'm twenty years old. I have all my credits when I was in school, but couldn't pass social studies. I graduated in 2006. Til' this day I'm taking my test tomorrow. They passed that law, but only from this year and up. But you don't know how many people complained about that situation years ago. If I don't pass, I have to get my GED.. I don't want that to happen, because it seems like I went to school for nothing.

I think that the Exit exam is not necessary for a student to be able to receive a diploma. I am very glad that they passed the bill saying that we only have to pass math and reading and a least one other part of the exam. Thank you Jesus.

I agree 100% on this topic. I have passed all of my exams, but failed social studies and science.

I think the Alabama High School Graduation Exam is unfair to high school students. Why should students have to base their knowledge on a test. A student who worked hard all four years in school shouldn't have to take a test to get out of school. As a high school student, if I pass four out of five exams, I should be able to walk across the stage and recieve my high school diploma.
