Hi Duncan, Since I'm not your doctor, I have no idea what your expected height will be. Height is related to your genetics - the height your parents are plays a big part in the equation. Talk with your physician- he or she will be able to give you advice about this.

I'm a little over 5'7 and I'm 15 and 4 months old. A year ago I was 5'5, a year before that I was 5'2, and a year before that I was about 5'0 (which is around when I started puberty). Am I on pace to be 5'11-6'0? If it helps, I only have facial hair on my upper lip, and that is minimal.

Hi Safron, Only your doctor can tell you what is a good weight for you. However, you can lose weight more easily if you cut back on junk food and replace it with fresh fruits and veggie snacks instead.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi,im safron i do alot of exercise everyday but eat quite alot of food and junk food. Im 13, 5ft 5 and weigh about 7stone 6pounds. is that okai for my age?

-- Contributed by: Safron Newhouse

I'm 16 years old girl. My height is average (64 inches) but I weight 132!!!! Is this very bad?

-- Contributed by: starlight

Hi Jose, Only your own doctor can tell whether your height and weight are appropriate for you.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

hi,my name is jose and i am 13 and i am 70inches tall is that good or bad

-- Contributed by: jose

Hi Mikaela, The numbers in the chart are only averages. Your weight is slightly higher, which can be explained by any number of things- heredity and growth, etc. Speak with your doctor or school nurse if you're worried about your current weight.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi, i'm a 15 year old female and im concerned because I am 67.8 inches and 128.8 Ilbs!!! Is that healthy or do I have that weight because im tall because i dont look fat....

-- Contributed by: Mikaela

Hi Jaret,

Do not eat only one meal a day. Your body needs nutrition and fuel from food to get you through your day. This is especially true if you workout. Actually, if you don't eat your body will go into starvation mode and will hold on to fat rather than burn it off when you workout. The best thing you can do is eat healthy (proteins, fruits, vegetables, etc.). Stay away from junk foods. Workout at least three days a week consistently and you should see some difference in a few weeks. Good luck.

Hi Jerel,

The best way to improve your health is eating healthy and exercising. If you continue to do push ups, you will increase your strength and be able to do more. Just keep at it and you will see the results you are looking for. Also, don't worry to much about your weight and height, your body is still growing at 17 and will change over time. If you are still worried, please talk to your doctor, he will be able to give you more advice on what you should do to improve your health.

Hi, I'm a 17-year old male, 5 '9, and weigh only 113 lbs. According to the body mass index, I'm below the fifth percentile. It really isn't good. Not only that, I can't do two push-ups without feeling terribly overwhelmed. I want to get healthy, and added the psychological stress of worrying about a many things.

-- Contributed by: Jerel

Hey, I'm 18 and weight 163-165 not exactly sure. I'm 5'10 and having a LOT of trouble getting down to an 145-150 weight range. I'm moving in maybe 2-3 weeks and wanna look my best but I have no clue what foods to eat because I look at charts and nothing is specific enough for what we have in the house. Several times I've considered just eating like one meal a day and doing intense work outs to lose the weight. Please help? I have trouble counting calories cause we don't have that many foods I can make that would be suitable for weight loss. Hope I get a reply real soon.

-- Contributed by: Jaret

Hi Desire,

I know, it really isn't as easy as people say it is. However, it's really the ideal way for someone your age to lose weight. You're still growing so you need nutrients from healthy food to help your body grow the way it should. Just keep on and take care of yourself - it will pay off in the long run. If you are really concerned with your weight, you can always discuss it with your doctor to hear what his/her thoughts and suggestions are. Good luck to you!

I am 15 and I weigh 200 lbs. I HATE the way I look. I am 5'3", so being short doesn't work to my advantage. I'm not "terribly obese" from the way you look at me, just chunky I guess you can say. My question is, what can I do to FINALLY LOSE ALL OF THIS JUNK? I have been told just to exercise and eat right, but it's not as easy as they make it seem. Please help?

-- Contributed by: Desire'

Hi Salman,

I'm not sure I understand your question. You might want to ask this type of question to your health/gym teacher. Your doctor may also be able to help you.

-- Contributed by: Marcelina Hardy

hi. Im 5 ft9 and im 16. I would like to know what percentage of total hieght is contributed bye each individual body part

-- Contributed by: salman

Hi Sky,

Losing weight may temporarily alter your cycle but it won't be forever. As soon as you start eating again, things should regulate. As far as your concern about your weight loss, you need to discuss this with your doctor. Good luck to you and hope that you are able to get well soon.

i'm 14 and i'm 5'1". i WAS weighing in around 125. before i tell what's going on, first of all, im just battling a rare nerve disorder called RND (Reflex Neurovascular Dystrophy)or a chronic pain syndrome (basically my left leg, left arm/wrist and shoulder were in constant pain for 8 months) and the only way to keep it away is to exercise so the nerves are "over-fired". i also feel sick 24/7 after i eat ANYTHING. so im reccomended to going on a strict, non-acidic diet to keep my body well...non-acidic. i'm already not able to eat solid food considering my wisdom teeth are growing in and are very painful. im kinda worried about doing this diet, but i really have no choice unless i want to feel like im going to throw up 24/7. please help. thanks... P.S.-in the past month, i've dropped from 125 to about 115. that's why im scared i'll lose too much weight and stop my period or ability to get pregnant one day.

-- Contributed by: Sky

At 15, you shouldn't be following any fad diet. It may sound like the way to lose weight quickly but it will be at cost of your health. Your body needs nutrition right now more than ever to grow... It's hard but the best thing to do is eat a healthy diet and exercise. Remember, you are still growing and that means getting taller which will make you look slimmer. Give yourself time and things will figure itself out.

-- Contributed by: Marcelina Hardy

I have decided to go on a diet to loose weight, but am not sure about which would be best for me, as there is alot of diets being advertised. I know that balanced diet and plenty of exercise helps but i'm already doing that and have been for some time, with no effect. Is there anything else i could try without seriously effecting my health? im 15 and weigh 153 pounds and im 5'6.

Hi Alex,

These are just averages and every person and body is different. What may be a good weight for you and your body type, may not be for someone else. The best person to ask if you are underweight is your doctor.

Hi Lita,

It seems like you may have low self-esteem. Discuss your weight with your doctor to find out if you are where you should be and if you still feel down about yourself, you may want to talk about it with a trusted adult such as one of your parents, a counselor or someone else you can open up to. Good luck to you!

Hi Julian,

There's no way to tell how tall you will be. You can ask your doctor to give you an estimate based on your growth curve if you want some idea. Thank you for your question.

Im 13 yrs old and im 113 pounds and 5.6 feet tall how tall do you presume i'll be? Im curious and worried.

-- Contributed by: Juilian

Hi Amber,

You are right around the age when your body is trying to figure itself out. While you shouldn't concentrate on dieting right now, eating healthy and exercising is a great way to get in the habit of leading a healthy lifestyle later in life. You can start eating healthy and exercising any day, you don't have to wait two years and to answer your question about gaining weight as you get older, it depends on how tall you grow and your eating habits. If you are still concerned, an excellent person to talk to about this is your doctor. Thank you for your comment.

-- Contributed by: Marcelina Hardy

I am 16 yrs old and have a height of 62 inches and weigh 129 lbs. I'm overweight. Should I find a way to lose weight now or should I wait two years so then I would be within the range then? But wouldn't I keep gaining weight as I get older? I'm so confused!!!

-- Contributed by: Amber B.

Amber,

Since your height isn't on the chart above, it would be a good idea to ask your doctor if you are at a healthy weight.

Hi Anxious,

At 13 years old, your body is still growing so yes, you will probably grow taller in the next few years. However, there's nothing you can do to *make* yourself grow taller.

-- Contributed by: Marcelina Hardy

so your saying that thees oisnt anything i can do?...comon, surely i can grow taller....

-- Contributed by: anxious

Hi Anxious,

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to make yourself grow taller than what you will end up growing. Your height is determined by your genes and it cannot be controlled like weight can. Feel good about yourself because you are who you are and that is perfect.

-- Contributed by: Marcelina Hardy

i turned 13 four months ago, and my height is 156 centimetres and weight 48kg...i wanna grow tall, and atleast reach about 160 centimetres this month,...i play badminton(though not so regularly)... i badly want help, can anyne please tell me some ways to grow tall..?..plz

Thanks for your input Lorena and good for you!!

-- Contributed by: Marcelina Hardy

I'm 132 and 5'6. but i was like 167 a little more than a month ago. All i did was make sure to make myself only eat if i'm hungry. Not out of boredom. (dont go and look through ur kitchen just cause theres nothin else to do if u wanna lose weight) and i honestly did 100 leg lift type things a night. and i lost alot. i went to the doctor in i think early march and was 167. then i was 132 april 14. and thats not unhealthy dieting. thats just controlling yourself and sticking with stuff. I dont think that people need to lose weight unless its a health problem. But if you're a teenage chick thats something you're gonna worry about. People can say that it shouldnt matter all they want.. and it shouldnt. But if thats just one of your personal goals to drop a little weight, go for it.

-- Contributed by: Lorena

Alyssa,

Sounds like you are quite happy with your body so don't worry. It seems like you exercise regularly which is important. Just remember that muscle weighs more than fat, which may be why you fall out of range. You are doing great!

-- Contributed by: Marcelina Hardy

Hey, my name is Alyssa and I'm twelve years old weighing 108lbs at the height of 5"ft. I dont understand if I'm Over weight because it says on the chart that the average weight for a twelve year old is 95-105 pounds! I workout out every day, but i think i just build alot of muscle because my body is okay, its got some baby fat but other than that its fine! Please help me in my confusing situation!

Thank you, Alyssa

Hi Ali,

Having some fat on your body is actually healthy. However, if feel uncomfortable about where your fat has decided to camp out, you could try to do some cardio, sit ups and eat a healthy diet.

Weight and height charts don't take into account people's body types. If you are healthy and your doctor is pleased with your growth, then you should be good!

Gina,

Please contact your school nurse or doctor to find out if you fall within the average. However, if you feel comfortable in your own skin, than you are perfect.

Hi Natalie,

Unfortunately, we don't have a chart that gives more detail. You may want to consult with your doctor about any specific questions you have about your height and weight. Thanks for visiting LTK Teens!

-- Contributed by: Marcelina Hardy

This chart is really vague! The only height listed for girls between 16 and 20 is sixty-four inches, making it hard to judge by other height standards. Is there a chart that goes into more detail than this?

-- Contributed by: Natalie

I am 12(almost 13 in less than 2 months) and I weigh about 72 pounds. I am almost 5 feet tall. Is my weight bad for my age???

I am way over the average. I am 5 feet 10 which is about 70 inches but i weigh about 195 lbs!! is this a lot too much...i don't look that overweight!

-- Contributed by: richard

Katie,

It may just be a fast metabolism and a complex carbohydrate intolerance but if you worry about it, talk to your doctor and see what he/she says.

Riley, Please refer to the chart above. If your height/weight ratio worries you, please contact your doctor. Good luck!

-- Contributed by: Marcelina Hardy

I'm 12 and 70 inches tall and weigh 146lbs ( Im in Australia and had to convert it) Is that to much?

I was trying to figure out if I was underweight and apparently I am...I am 17 years old, a bit over 69 inches tall (haven't grown in over a year) and weight 127 pounds. I can't gain weight no matter what I do D: Is there anything to be concerned about? I know that I have complex carbohydrate intolerance (body doesn't process carbs) and a fast metabolism, but not being able to gain weight seems a little fishy...

Hi Hannah,

Looking at the chart in the article, a teen girl who is 15 and 5'6 (66 inches) should be a little over 120 lbs (going by the 64 inches at 120 lbs) - so it looks like you are pretty close to being at the ideal weight for your height and age.

Thanks!

Beki,

These are standards set for the average -- so, it is a range of what is only in the 50% percentile.

Pediatricians must use more detailed charts than this one and someone who is in the 60% for weight isn't necessarily overweight. Just a little above average.

It is usually better to look at your height and weight, along with a BMI and a visit to the doctor to determine the healthiest weight for each individual.

Hi Alex, It is time to stop focusing on what you don't like about your body and think about what you do like. You should also make sure you're not eating to cover up your stressful feelings- it certainly will only make you more overweight and depressed. Horse 4-H is a lot of fun- try to spend more time doing that and perhaps even pick up a few other 4-H projects as well to keep you occupied. If you're busy you will be less likely to over eat and you won't have time to worry about your family problems or weight.

As for the boyfriend issue, things happen in their own sweet time. 14 isn't that old! If you're confident about yourself, it will show and people will be attracted to you- including boys.

I am a 14 yo girl in the 10th grade and I weigh 145 pounds. I am super over weight and I hate it. I ride horsesand do physical fitness with my 4-h and I still am so overweight! And to add to that my breasts are small. My parents just got divorced and I hate my life. I don't have very many friends and I have never had a boyfriend. Please help me! I hate my body and my life.

There is another warning that isn't made here. That is that comapring yourself to current averages isn't necessarily a good way to see of you are heading for a healthy, succesful life.

Anyone close to 80lbs and 5' 4" should be questioning the type and quantity of the food they eat and the amount of excercise they are getting.

Just think that the avergae of your class might be 50% more than you, but they are all bloated couch potatoes. Does that make you OK/ Can you judge by that? No. Check the BMI. Look in the mirror. Feel around your body for folds of fat. I've seen "heavy weight" foootballers who look like they got tits in the shower room. That isn't muscle.

True, very true, that if you train for muscles, than you can be over any generally recommended weight just because muscle weighs more than fat. But don't kid yourself. If you are growing soft lunps where it should be harder, then you are loosing out on other nutrients that could help you be smarter and live longer. Read up. Ask in bioology class if the teacher can't do a "special" on weight and fitness. Maybe a project. Don't pick on folks who are overweight. Help them. Its hard to stay healthy in a family where Mama weighs in at 5' 2" and 300lbs and papa at 5' 10" is knocking 400 lbs. Where 10 rashers of bacon and 3 eggs is a "normal" breakfast. Weight is foten a sign of the subconscious overeating to feel happy. Pick on folks and they eat more. Thats a sick way to treat other folks. Either leave them alone or read up on what you can do to help. Then help, don't think about it, don't talk about it, do it. Mske friends, invite them to lunch. Don't talk weight unless invited.

Kiki. Height is one thing NEVER to worry about. Tall people like you are, on average MUCH more succesful then shorties (like me). Tall people project power and capability. They can more easily lead others. They make friends easier. The only thing shorties can do is to work harder! Thats what I did. You need at least another 3 inches to be even an average supermodel height. 7 to 8 more inches to be at the top end. Thats a lot. Grow your hair long, let it swing as you walk, check your posture - no round shoulders. Practice that smile in a mirror until it becomes part of you. "Walk tall" isn't a motto for success without a reason. One day soon you'll hear someone saying "wow!" as you walk past.

Hi everyone, Once again I must reiterate that these charts from the Center for Disease Control in the United States are AVERAGES. Averages mean that people will fall out of this range on both ends of it. If you don't understand what averages are, or are concerned with your height and weight, see your family physician. They'll be happy to explain this to you.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi Kiki, In a word, no. You're not going to shrink. You're height isn't that abnormal- remember, these charts are giving averages, not absolutes. You're friends just haven't caught up to you yet. Give it a little time. I bet some of your friends you haven't seen all summer are already catching up to you. You may be pleasantly surprised this fall when you go back to school.

I'm 14 and I think I'm 67 inches... because of my height I suffer from depression. Is there anyway I could shrink an inch or two?

Hi Jayke, You should have a talk with your family physician- they can answer your questions about weight loss, proper diet and an exercise regime.

Okay, so I'm like, 65 inches tall and my weight is I believe to be 290 pounds. I think I am too fat. I need to diet, but I don't know how. Will someone please help me? Thanks! -Jayke

Hi Jessica and Kelly, neither of you are overweight, and you don't need to diet. People who are your age are growing - dieting now could stunt your growth! Eat sensibly and exercise - don't diet unless your doctor tells you to.

Don't listen to these things, I know how you feel. I can't understand either. I'm 5'8" weigh 155 and I play sports 3 seasons around and when I'm not, catch me a the gym. Hi BriAnna, Ashley and Claire, Everyone is different, and how you look is largely dependent upon genetics. Hi Everyone, When I read all of your comments about your weight concerns, I can't help but blame the media for teen girls insecurities. If you aren't a size 0, you feel that you're not good enough. Good enough for what, I would like to know! I would like for each of you to find something about your bodies that you do like, and focus on that, instead of a large butt, plump tummy or a little cellulite on your thighs. If you feel good about yourself, you will naturally attract other people to you; it is that little thing that everyone talks about- self assurance.

If you're truly worried about your weight, whether you are a little over, or a little under the charts mentioned in the above article, speak with your doctor about it. They can give you accurate advice based on your medical history and family history.

What do you think, I'm confused too- you say the doctor thinks the weight gain is due to birth control, but then he or she says that is abnormal. Perhaps you misunderstood what they told you. It is normal to gain a little weight while on birth control, but if you continue to keep gaining weight, I would see the doctor again. Maybe you aren't getting enough exercise, or need a change in your diet. Your doctor will be able to sort this out for you.

I'm 16, about 5'5"-5'6". I'm not fat, I'm in a size 3 or 5. My question is though I weigh almost 140! Is that normal? My mom jokes and says it's my boobs, they are almost a DD. About 6 months ago I started birth control so my doctor believes the weight is because of that, but I've gained 6 lbs. in 6 months. He's says thats abnormal. I'm just confused on why I weigh so much. Is that normal?

Hi Blaah, No one, not even your doctor, can say how big your chest will get. It is a wait and see kind of thing. As for your height and weight, it is pretty normal for someone your age. Finally, remember you'll continue to change, grow and develop for most of your teen years, and you have another 7 to go!

Hi Jallen, I'm not a doctor, so I can't say what your weight range should be. It also depends on how athletic and active you are. More activity means you need to eat more. I have a relative who is 6'7" and weighs 220- but he isn't into sports. Talk with your physician if you think you need to gain weight- they can tell you what a good diet is for someone your height.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi Kayleigh, The first place to start is with your family physician. Your sister may have a medical condition that is causing this.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi Eric, Start with talking to your doctor about your diet and exercise routines. They could give you advice on how to gain weight- you could also talk to a coach at school (if you are in sports) for ideas how to gain weight also.

Hi Molly, Why do you think that being 3 pounds over an average number is bad? Remember, an average means that there are people who weigh more, and people who weigh less than the average number.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi Mirna, Only your doctor could say if your height is a problem or not. Remember, the charts show AVERAGES not a required height for each person in that age range.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi Alex, Physical education is required because everyone needs to get exercise to be healthy. Some people spend all of their time sitting down, watching television, playing video games or just reading. If your muscles don't get a workout, even a mild one, they become weak. (Think of how long you sit in a chair during the school day!) Since there are so many Americans that are overweight and obese, the government requires that school-age kids get at least some exercise while in school - so that is why it is part of the curriculum in public schools.

As for your weight fluctuations, check with your doctor. They could figure out why it is changing so drastically from day to day.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi my name is Molly. I am 16 and weigh about 128. Is that bad? I am 5'5.

-- Contributed by: molly

I was looking at the average height for teens and I am 4 inches under that. I am 13 and am 56 inches tall. Would that be a problem.

-- Contributed by: mirna

Hi, it's me again!! You already know my age, weight, and height. I just have a few questions. Why exactly is physical education required? Is it to help obesity or just for fun? My weight changes everyday. I went to the scale yesterday and I was 139 pounds. Today I'm 147. Is that unhealthy? Everyone calls me Skinny and anorexic looking, because I have a HUGE curve and most of my fat goes to my thighs. I don't feel the part, though.

-- Contributed by: Alex Putnam

Hi Alex, I can't say whether you are overweight or not, that is up to your doctor. Why do you feel overweight? Do your clothes look too tight and are they uncomfortable after you eat? If this is the case, get some new clothes that are comfortable. Tight clothing makes you feel self-conscious all of the time! If you want to lose weight, try adding some exercise to your daily routine, like walking around the block after you eat dinner each night. Try pilates, yoga or Bollywood dance for something different. Carefully watch your diet and get rid of foods high in sugar and fats. Add more fruits, veggies and lean meats and you should experience some weight loss.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi Thomas, Congratulations on losing 22 pounds! That's great! You sound like you are in danger of backsliding because you don't see a big difference in your clothing. Don't you feel better though? I bet you notice a difference when you walk up stairs or do anything that requires physical exertion. Don't give up! You've done a lot of work in the last four months.

Maybe you've hit a plateau, which often happens when your body adjusts to weight loss. With warm weather approaching, it is time to kick it up a notch. Try adding a little more activity to your exercise routine and you'll kick-start your metabolism again. Remember to steer clear of foods high in sugar (read the nutrition facts and aim for 20-30 grams of sugar each day). Add more fruits and veggies to your diet and keep lean meats on the menu. Remember, you don't have to kill yourself exercising- add an additional 5-10 minutes to your exercise routine each day and you should see some more results.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi Kate, You can't change your curves- you need to embrace them. Forget the thin model stuff, you look like a real woman, not a pre-pubescent girl! I'm sorry you don't like what you see, but I can assure you many guys will like what they see, especially as you get older (teen guys are hung-up on unrealistic looking model-thin girls).

It sounds like you are exercising, but have you changed your diet? Remember, you have to burn more calories than you eat each day in order to lose weight. Read the nutrition facts on the labels of the pre-packaged foods you eat. Try not to eat more than 20-30 grams of sugar per day. Avoid diet soda, sugary drinks and packaged snacks (avoid vending machines like the plague!). Start eating more fresh fruits, veggies and lean meats. This may mean a big change in your diet, but the results will reassure you this is working. If you don't do this already, volunteer to cook for your family. It is one way to gain control over your diet and ensure healthy food is served. Take out a few cookbooks from the library and get cooking!

I don't eat horrible, but I could eat better/healthier and I exercise regularly aside from the regulated p.e at school. Nothing I seem to do works. I've done yoga and cardio pilates for a little over 6 months now, and nothing seems to help with toning up my problem spots like inner thighs, that annoying arm flab that I'm sure every teenage girl is self conscious of, and of course, love handles and stomach. I know that was a lot, but I need some suggestions. Think you or anyone can help?

Hi Nancey, For someone who is so athletic, I'm guessing you aren't really fat; you probably are muscular and there isn't anything wrong with that. Everyone is a different body type, and you probably see this a lot in your gymnastics class. Some people are tall and willowy, while others are shorter and more stocky. Unfortunately, our society tends to portray the tall willowy types as the most desirable. (I understand, I'm 5'2"!).

First, you already know not to totally depend on what the scale says, so don't. Weigh yourself once a week, the same day each week and hide the scale the rest of the time. Second, as an athlete, the only safe way to lose weight, (and not get dizzy during workouts), is to eat a diet of lean meats, lots of fruit and lots of veggies, but avoid white fruits and veggies like potatoes and bananas- they're high in starch. Don't drink diet soda, sugar filled drinks (read the labels) or eat snack foods. You should see results in short order if you eat a good diet and continue exercising.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

OK, so I'm 12 years old turning 13. I'm 5 foot even and I weigh between 125 and 130! Every time I try to lose weight I just can't! I watch what I eat and I exercise a lot! I'm in gymnastics on and I play out side a lot. One day I will weigh 124 and the next day I may weigh 128, then it will be 124 again! I'm not really worried about what the scales say, but it's almost summer time and I'm having a pool party for my birthday. I don't want to look bad in my swim suit! Do you think there is anyway I could lose weight before my party?

How can a 14 year-old lose 15 pounds in a month.

-- Contributed by: MS.BARBIE

Hi Resma, First of all, I can't tell you whether you are healthy or not; only your doctor can do that. If you want to know whether your weight is in the acceptable range or not, the answer is yes. Please note that the charts in the article are averages (I'm assuming you know what this means). When figuring averages there are people that weigh more in the sample group, and people who weigh less. So if you weigh 5-10 pounds more than the chart says, you are still within an acceptable range.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi, my name is Reshma and I'm 16 years old. I'm 5'2". My weight is about 105 . I'm not following any diet. I used to play tennis, but I've given that up because my exams are coming up. Am I healthy? What do you think I should do if I'm not? Thank you.

-- Contributed by: reshma

Hi Lauren, You are probably going through a growth spurt, or soon will at your age. If you are physically active, it is not unusual to weigh what you do, and you said you aren't dieting. For girls, it is not unusual for their weight to fluctuate a few pounds, especially if they have already gotten their period (you'll gain weight around this time of the month). If you have any health concerns, please talk with your family doctor or your school nurse. They can answer any questions you have if you're worried.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi, my name is Lauren. I'm a 13 year old girl. I have just reached 5 feet in height. My weight differs from 98-103. I'm not on any diet or anything. I am very physically active. Is all this information normal? Healthy? Thank you. God bless.

-- Contributed by: Lauren

Hi Lexi, I'm really worried about you. Is this inner dialogue going on in your head all of the time? Thinking about your weight and what you are going to eat, or have eaten, all of the time is called obsessive compulsive behavior. In some cases it leads to anorexia (I'm hoping you know what I'm talking about here). Honestly, you need to get a handle on the way you feel about your weight. For your weight and height you are thin and your mom is right. If you aren't already aware of this, not eating a proper diet at your age can have serious consequences years down the road. While it is hard to think past next week when you are young, you'll regret it later. Dieting now and depriving your body of what it needs to become a healthy and strong adult will inevitably end in disaster. Being skinny isn't the most important thing you can do (forget about those darn skinny jeans- real women have curves!). Please concentrate on being healthy. You don't want to get on that diet roller coaster at your age, believe me, you'll regret it.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi Dieter, It is more important what your doctor thinks than what someone who has never seen you says (that being me). Your doctor could give you ideas on how to safely loose weight. There are a few things that you could do to loose weight though that are generally accepted good habits. First, get a little exercise, even if it is walking around the block after dinner. This kick starts your metabolism and starts burning fat. Second, eat a healthy diet and get rid of the junk food. Start reading the labels of the foods you eat and see how much sugar is in them. If you aren't burning off a good portion of the calories you consume every day, foods high in sugar will convert to fat (this can even include juices and sports drinks!). Start eating whole grain foods, like wheat bread and pastas and eat more fruits and veggies- five a day is the rule of thumb. You should start to see results simply from eating a healthier diet and exercising 3-5 times per week for at least a half hour a day. Good luck and hang in there!

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi Nick, What does your doctor think and tell you about your weight? For your height, I'm guessing you look a little on the thin side. Personally, most of my family members are over 6 feet tall (3 guys and 1 girl) and they weigh about 50 to 75 pounds more than you do, and they're thin! However, I shouldn't compare apples and oranges- guys almost always weigh more than girls do. As for your friend, guys will burn more calories for their size than women do, so the fact that he eats a lot but doesn't gain weight is not surprising. I know it seems confusing, but I don't think you are overweight, nor do I think you should diet. Try not compare yourself to your peers or guys who are as tall as you are since everyone is unique. I think you're going to be just fine!

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi, I'm really worried about my weight so badly . I'm about 5'6, 13 years old and weigh 164 . I'm really fat and all the averages are telling me this even more. I'm dieting, kind of, and I'm not loosing weight. Am I overweight, and more importantly is there a way for me to loose more weight?

-- Contributed by: dieter

Hi, I am 15 and weigh 145- 150. It always goes up and down. I'm really tall for my age. I am 6 foot 1. People say I'm skinny and boney but I don't see or feel it. I weigh more than some overweight kids my age. Even kids that have bigger arms legs and waist than I. I'm confused; I look skinny but weigh alot! I do exercise, not a lot, but I move around. I bike 3 or 4 times a week and I bike about 3 miles everytime. What I find pretty crazy is that my friend weighs 120 and eats twice as much as I do! He drinks a lot of sodas and eats a lot. I'm just afraid I'm going to weigh 200 pounds when I get out of high school. I haven't gained a lot of weight over the years. Last year I weighed 143. I was shorter though.

People tell me I'm skinny but they just say that to be nice, I know it! I need to lose weight and FAST- before summer. I have been eating healthier, not eating as much, counting calories and exercising a lot! Lately that's what I've been doing and I don't know if it's working. All I think about is "I need to lose weight now!" "I'm fat" "I need to stop eating" "I need to be skinny, like other girls my age" "I'm over weight" and all things like that. I try not to eat as much and eat stuff with few calories, but it's not helping. So help me!

I'm natrually skinny, but have alot of muscle, and my hip bones stick out. My mom is concerned, but I don't know what I am doing to do this. Is this a problem I should be concerned by?

-- Contributed by: ConfusedGymnast

Hi Confused, First, I would urge you to speak with your doctor before you start any diet or exercise program. I don't know your medical history and I'm not a doctor myself. I'm guessing that if you aren't losing weight and you are exercising that you probably have too much sugar and starches in your diet. Try eliminating all sugar (except for artificial sweeteners), soda, bananas, potatoes, winter squashes and pastas that aren't whole wheat for two weeks; see if that doesn't help you shed a few pounds. Try eating more fruits and vegetables- at least 5 per day. You can't lose weight if you are eating the same amount of calories as you burn each day, and sugars and starches are quickly converted to fat stores in your body.

I'm 13, 5'5, and I weigh 143. I eat healthy and exercise regurlarly. Is this overweight, and if it is, what do I do to lose some weight?

-- Contributed by: confused

Hi X, Your doctor is concerned because of the amount of weight you lost in such a short period of time, not because you weigh around 100 pounds. The average weight for your height and age is 105-125. If you continue to lose weight, then yes, I'd be worried about your physical health. It sounds like you could use someone to talk to about your depression. If your physician hasn't already discussed this with you and referred you to someone, try asking to speak to a counselor at school. Losing that much weight because of depression isn't healthy, especially if it continues. No one wants to see you go down in flames! Please see a counselor ASAP.

I'm 15. I am 5'5" and I used to weigh 161. Over the past year I have been really depressed, and my weight has gone down to about 100 pounds. Is this too low? My doctor thinks I may have an eating disorder. I don't think I am that skinny. And I don't need her help.

Hey, I'm 12 and I weigh 115. I do have a lot of muscle because I do work out and I play sports. But I was wondering if that was too much. And I was wondering where I could get help with my nutrition habits and what I should eat. I'm not very worried about exercise, just the nutrition. I just need some help, so thank you very much!

Hi Lori, Everyone matures at a different rate. I'm sorry to hear that your classmates are giving you a hard time about your breast size. While no one can say for sure how large you will develop, you can look at your female relatives to get an idea of how large you may become. Some women don't develop until their late teens. Until then, consider buying a breast enhancing bra like a water bra or wonder bra if you feel that you are too small. This could help silence the annoying people in your class. Hang in there!

Hello everyone that is wondering if they are overweight or not according to the charts above. I want you to look at the far right hand column; this states that the weight ranges are in the 50th percentile. What does this mean? It means that it is the average weight of people in this range. You may weigh more, or less; it doesn't mean that you are overweight. Please visit your family physician or school nurse to discuss your weight if you feel that there is a problem.

I'm 12 and weigh around 120-125. Is that too much? I'm around 4 feet 11 or so.

Hi, I really don't know how tall I am but everybody is either a little bit shorter than me or a lot shorter than me. I eat way more than I am supposed to! I eat 3 trays at lunch, but guess how old and how much I weigh? I am 13 years old and 93 pounds at this very moment. So, is that normal, and give me more information about this! Thanks a lot!

Hi, I was just wondering after a girl starts puberty do we grow more up top. I have been going through it and I still haven't grown much. All the girls in my class make fun of me for being little. Is there anything I can say that would justify the fact that I am "little"? By the way, I am 13 going on 14, 115 lbs, and 5 foot 1 inch tall.

-- Contributed by: Lori

That is not right because my doctor said that for me to be 5"3 that I am average, but your table is showing me that I am overweigt at 116 lbs. Please email me back as soon as you get this. Thanks a lot.

Hi Annonymous, You didn't mention how tall you are, but 107 pounds isn't considered heavy for someone your age.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi, I am a 12 year old girl and I was wondering if weighing 107 pounds is a lot. I feel like I am heavier than everybody else!

-- Contributed by: annonymous

Hi Annonymous, Is this eating very little every day, or just occasionally? Everyone varies in appetite; teens are no different. However, if you eat like this everyday, your body isn't getting enough nutrients (you should be eating around 2300 calories a day for a growing guy). It doesn't mean you are anorexic- though guys can have this disorder too. Anorexics are deliberately trying to keep thin by vomiting, using laxitives and severely limiting their diet to purge their system. I would suggest seeing your family doctor soon for advice if this is an ongoing problem.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi, I'm 13 years old, a male and weigh 98 pounds and my height is 5'8. My problem is that I don't have an appetite. The other day I had nothing but an Oreo cookie and a glass of milk. Does this make me anorexic?

-- Contributed by: annonymous

Hi Frannie, First, you should listen to what your doctors are telling you. If they say you are overweight and need to lose a little, follow their advice. I don't know what you look like, so I'm not sure what you mean. Do you look heavier than the 165? If so, perhaps you should consider making some changes to your wardrobe. Don't wear tight fitting clothing- it will only make you look heavier. However, wearing clothing that is too baggy will also make you look heavier. Buy clothes that flatter your figure and are the right size, with no pinching or bagging. Try on clothes in front of the mirror at the store and make sure they fit before you buy them. Take along a really good friend shopping with you to help you make selections that look good and feel good.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

I forgot to put that I'm 5'8.

-- Contributed by: frannie

Hi, I'm 17 and weigh, as of right now, 165. I'm not really pudgy or anything, but I am told by my doctors that I am overweight. They are always surprised when I step on the scales for them to weigh me. I don't look it at all, but could there possibly be something wrong with my body for it to weigh so much when I don't even come close to looking it?

-- Contributed by: frannie

Hi Amy Jo, If you are looking for a very specific number, you'll have to see your physician. They'll take into consideration your medical history, family history (height of your mother and father) and give you more specific weight information. Sorry- these averages are from the Center for Disease Control (U.S. Government). If you live in the U.S. your physician will use this same chart to determine the approximate weight you should be.

Hi. I'm a 14 year old female who is 5-3 or 5-4 and would like to know how much I am suppose to weigh, not just the average. Please help. Thanks.

-- Contributed by: Amy jo

Hi Patti,

Very good questions! Your son is probably maturing faster physically than mentally. Girls mature mentally faster than boys do, with the two eventually evening out in the early 20's. I understand your worry; the best thing you can do is to have a nice talk with your son and discuss your expectations and that you feel sexual activity at his age is inappropriate. I know this is uncomfortable, but he needs to know exactly where you stand on the sex issue. Kids do listen to us, even if they seem to treat us with disdain. Teens today are becoming sexually active much sooner than their parents did, so there is no better time than the present to have a frank discussion about sex, babies and responsibility. Hang in there and good luck!

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

My son is 14. He is 6'6" and weighs 250 pounds. I know he is the extreme. He plays all sports, and is very active. My question is, because of his size, will he mature sexually and mentally quicker than the normal 14 year old. He has a "girfriend", and I am worried.

Hi Cynthia, It is possible that you will continue to grow; many people grow until their are in the age range of 18-21. If you want a good idea of how tall you'll be, look at your parents. Genetics plays a big part in how tall you'll become.

As for the stretch marks, they occur when the skin is stretched in a short period of time. I'm guessing you may have had a growth spurt and this caused your skin to develop the stretch marks. Don't worry too much about them, they usually fade away in young people quickly since your skin is more supple. One of the best ways to prevent them (especially in the hip and buttocks area) is to use moisturizer each time you take a bath or get out of the shower. Dry skin is more prone to stretch marks.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Im 14, 118-120 and 5'6. Will I grow anymore heightwise? Also, I have strectch marks on my butt, which isn't big at all (size 1-3 jeans) how is that possible?

Hi Rebecca and Jennifer;

The information on these charts is from the Center for Disease Control of the U.S. Govt. The information is AVERAGES which means there will be people that weigh more, some that will weigh less. There will also be people who are taller that the AVERAGE person in these categories as well.

If you want to know what AVERAGE means, just take a look around your classroom. Is everyone the exact same height and weight for their age? Obviously not. If you want to know how to figure out an average, ask your math teacher- they'll be glad to show you how.

Worried about your weight or height- then see your physician. They can show you where you appear on these same charts and explain what it means.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hey, I'm Rebecca and I'm pretty sure these charts aren't completely accurate! I am 15 and 5'8. I weigh 138lbs. I don't do sports and I am not very athletic, but I am very healthy. You don't have to be a sports fanatic to be healthy! Be happy with who you are, not what these charts say you should be!

-- Contributed by: Rebecca

I'm 13, and 5 foot 9, and I weigh 150, but I'm very athletic. It says nothing about "tall" girls, which there are many of.

Hi Just Another Girl, The weights listed in the article are averages, if you weigh a little more or a little less that's okay. Just because you weigh a little more than the average doesn't mean your fat. If you are concerned about your weight and weight loss, please see your physician for ideas on how you can safely lose weight.

Hi Megan, The weights in these charts are averages. This means that you may weigh more or less than your peers in your category.

Do not listen to these charts. They are stupid in every way. I don't fit into these charts because the majority of my body weight is bone and tissue, you can see my hip bones, shoulders and feel my ribs.

Hi Dillon, Anyone who does distance running is going to weigh less than their peers- it is only natural. I used to be a distance runner also, and that was my lowest weight ever. It is almost impossible to eat more calories than you burn when you're training. My advice is to make sure you are eating the right kinds of calories, especially carbs since you're an athlete. Talk with your coach if you think you've lost too much weight since you started training- they can give you more advice on proper diet and nutrition.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi Adrian, So, you weigh more than the average kid your age and height. That doesn't make you overweight; you're still within an acceptable range. The average height for a boy your age is 5'3 to 5'6. You'll continue to grow until you are between 18-21 years of age. Genetics determines how tall you will be- look at your father and grandfather- that should give you an idea of how tall you may become.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi. I'm 16, a male, 5' 8.5" and 117lbs. I see that the average weight for a 16 year old male is 130-150, is it bad that I only weigh 117lbs? Plus, I am a cross country and track athlete, this may have something to deal with my weight.

Hi Once Skinny, So you're tall, weight 140 and are still considered skinny? I don't really see the problem- there are so many girls that would like to have your body type. If you earnestly want to lose weight, you can safely lose 2 pounds per week if you eat properly and exercise. Check out our sister site, LoveToKnow Diet for healthy diet plans. However, I would check our chart above to see where you fall in the weight category. If your weight is more than 10 pounds below your average, you should not try to lose more weight- it wouldn't be healthy.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi. I'm 14, 5'7 and about 140lbs. I don't really look like I'm fat and people think I'm skinny, but I used to always be really skinny, so I'm not used to weighing so much so I'm taking it really hard. What's the best way to lose about 20lbs in a healthy and fast way?

Hi Tana, People that are muscular sometimes look larger than people that weigh the same, but their fat percentage is much lower. For example, Olympic Gold Medal gymnast, Mary Lou Retton had low body fat, but she looked bulkier when she was "built." Obviously, it didn't affect her performance. Please visit the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports for a more in depth explanation of fat vs. muscle.

-- Contributed by: Too Fat and Too Short

Hi Too Fat and Too Short- first, stop beating yourself over the head about your weight. The chart in this article shows averages! No one said you are overweight (unless your doctor did). I want you take a look at the CDC's chart (click on the link) to see where you are on the chart for age, height and weight. The bottom of the chart shows your age, the right hand side of the chart shows your weight. I used the information you gave me and it puts you at the 55th percentile for weight and the 25th percentile for height. What does this mean? Well, you aren't obese; you'd have to be 80 pounds overweight to be considered obese. If you want to lose weight though, I'd check with your doctor for some pointers on nutrition and exercise. Remember- you have to consume fewer calories per day than you expend in order to lose weight.

Now for the baby fat question- it really is just a phrase to describe kids that are still a little chubby. It doesn't really mean anything.

Most kids stop growing between 18-21 years of age. Your growth slows down considerably after puberty. Look to the size of your parents to see how tall you'll probably be (usually somewhere between your two parents).

Now, for the milk question. The calcium in milk can help you get and keep strong bones. It won't make you taller.

Hope this covers it!

About my weight, I think I'm too fat, in fact even the chart says so. I know ur not trying to put me down and I can't handle critisixing so I liked the truth. Am I fat? I weight train too, and I'm told muscles weigh more than fat, but my how much tho? How many lbs? What can I do to get skinnier? I don't want to be this way forever but I've tried everything, jogging, hula-hoops, jump ropes, walking instead of public transportion and I've even started eating salads. But it's not working. I still have jelly rolls (excuse the wording) !!! What do I have to do??? Is it baby fat? Wat IS baby fat anyways!!?? Please help!

-- Contributed by: Too Fat and Too Short

Hi Nicole, You fall within an acceptable height and weight range, so I don't understand why you want to lose 7 pounds. At any rate, the only way to lose weight is to consume fewer calories than you expend each day which either means eat fewer calories or exercise more. Eat smaller portions or eliminate junk food from your diet- exchange the junk for veggies and fruits. Don't starve yourself- it never works and only makes you cranky.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi Fred, First, I'm not a doctor, nor is the person who wrote this article. We're just trying to educate people on what the average heights and weights are for teenagers. Now, to answer your question. Your height and weight fit within the acceptable range. While you may be shorter than other guys in your age group, that doesn't mean there is a problem. Look at your relatives- your height is usually predetermined by your ancestors. If you think something is wrong, I would encourage you to see a doctor in person to see if there is a medical problem.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi Tina, The best way to lose weight is to watch what you eat closely and engage in moderate exercise. Most teens are active anyway, so you probably just need to eliminate some extra calories from your diet. Start by eliminating extra snacks like high carb chips, candy or cookies. Steer away from fast foods if you eat them a lot and opt for eating at home or bringing your lunch to school. Try snacking on fruits and veggies- yep, just like everyone always tells you! If you eliminate some of the extra calories and exercise- even walking 20-30 minutes per day, you should safely lose 1-2 pounds per week.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi Tommy, If you are 13 and are 5'11 weighing in at 160 pounds, it means you are closer to the 100th percentile. The graphs in this article are averages, that means the majority of the people in your age group fall in those ranges. It doesn't mean there is anything wrong with you! Please speak with your doctor if you think something is wrong. I'm guessing the other guys in your family are probably tall too though.

Some people will weigh more, others less, depending upon their genetics, medical history and general health. Hi Arielle, there really is no quick fix for losing weight fast. Slow and steady wins the race- honest! Don't try to lose more than 2-3 pounds a week or you will wind up losing muscle not fat. When that happens- you guessed it- the weight comes back really quick. If you are serious about losing weight, you need a two-pronged approach- the right diet and exercise. By diet I don't mean fad diets- they only create a vicious cycle that gets harder to break the older you get. Start eating healthy and eliminate excess sugar and fats from your diet. Try eating more veggies and whole grains for starters.

As for exercise, be sure you have a doctor's okay before you begin any program. Many people that don't like traditional work outs really like Pilates and Yoga- they teach you muscle control and use gentle stretching. Check a few of these videos out at your local public library to see if you like them. Most of the equipment you need can be bought very inexpensively at local retail stores. Good luck!

Hi Margarite,

Only your doctor can tell for sure if you are underweight or just right. If you are eating and are losing weight for no particular reason, I urge you to see a doctor as soon as possible. There may be a medical reason for your unexplained weight loss or the inability to gain any weight.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi Sikki,

Hi Dani,

You probably won't experience any more growth spurts after you have gone through puberty. Growth slows down quite a bit after that. You will continue to grow, though more slowly. If you recently started putting on weight consider if you've changed your diet or are exercising less. You can also discuss your worries with your parents or family doctor if you feel unsure about your growth and weight.

Hi Khadija,

The best advice I can give anyone who is really worried about their height or weight is to talk with their physician. Your physician can take into consideration your medical background or health considerations which affect your growth and weight. Since your height and body shape is greatly affected by genetics, take a look at your close family members, like your mom, dad, aunts and uncles. People in families tend to have similar heights and body shapes.

As for increasing your height, remember that people tend to grow into their early 20's, though it slows down once they reach puberty. For now, you can always buy shoes and boots with heels that can make you look taller.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi, i'm 14 yrs old and i'm concerned about my height. I'm 5'1", and i weigh 113 pounds. i think i'm too short for my age, and i want to know if my body is still growing. also, is there anything i can do to increase my height?

-- Contributed by: Khadija

Hi Michelle,

If you are concerned about being underweight, I urge you to speak with your physician. There may be health issues that need to be addressed; obviously you don't need to diet to lose weight, but rather you probably need to gain a few pounds. The best way to gain muscle weight is to exercise; however, you need the right kinds of exercise so you aren't burning too many calories and losing even more weight. Toning exercises are good because they are designed to do just that- tone, but not make you too muscular.

If your physician gives you the okay to exercise, either speak with your gym coach or join a local gym and tell them what your goals are- they can help design an exercise program just for you.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi Kristina,

Talking with your physician is the first step. In addition, unless you are 70 pounds or more overweight, you aren't considered obese, just overweight. Your physician can help you decide what kind of diet regimen is best for you. People that haven't stopped growing, like teens, have to be very careful with their diet, otherwise they can become ill and/or not grow to their optimum height.

Hi Olivia,

There are many people who are "naturally" skinny. They have high metabolisms and there is often a genetic factor, such as a parent who is also naturally thin. There are several things that contribute to weight loss or the inability to gain weight. First, not consuming enough calories each day. You should be eating at least 3 good meals a day and consume around 1400 calories each day. Second, if you exercise a lot, you need to eat more calories to make up for those that you burn exercising. Finally, have you spoken with your family doctor about your weight? There may be an underlying medical problem that needs to be addressed.

Your best bet if you feel that something is amiss is to discuss your problem with your physician. They can give you tips on how to gain weight or give you an assurance that you already weigh the right amount for your age and height. If your doctor gives you the thumbs up, then you can tell the kids at school they are totally off base.

Hi, everyone at my school calls me anorexic. I'm not. i eat three normal sied meals a day and i take amazing care of my body. I want to gain weight but i can't. i think it's because of my metabolism. my mom is somewhat skinny but my dad is fairly heavyset. what should i do?

Hi Brittany,

I know it is difficult to believe, but everyone is different, especially when they are teenagers and still growing. You may be either shorter or taller than the averages for teens your age. However, genetics plays a huge part in determining your height. It is also normal for people to gain weight right before they grow a little more- perhaps that is what is happening to you.

Only your doctor can help you determine whether you are the right height and weight for your age. If you are truly worried about your height and weight, have your parents make an appointment for you to have a physical or a check up so you can discuss this with your doctor.

Hi, I'm not sure if I am the right weight for my height and build. I am only 12 years old but I have the build of a 15 year old, and I am pretty darn tall for my age. I'm about 5'4" 5'5". I weigh about 121-122 pounds. I feel as though I am too big for my height. I eat healthy, and I don't skip meals. But I don't seem to lose weight no matter how hard I try. And I've been my height for awhile. I'm not sure if I'm going to grow or not. Can you answer a few of my questions? Am I healthy for my height and build?

Hi Keisha,

Without knowing how tall you are, it would be difficult to say whether you are overweight or not. Talk with your physician if you are concerned about your weight. He, or she, will know your complete medical background and be able to tell you whether you are overweight or need to diet.

Hi Elisa,

Your height is greatly determined by genetics. Usually your height is averaged between that of your mother, and your father. You should fall somewhere in between, though some people may end up shorter, and others taller. Most people continue to grow until they are in their early 20's, though not in growth spurts like they had when they were small.

Im,Currently weighing about 150 pounds.Teen(female)14 yrs of Age4 But the Question I really wanna Know Is Am I overweighted?

Hi Romy,

As with weight, the charts in the article represent averages in a particular age group. People can be a little taller, or a little shorter than the heights listed in the article's chart. A person's height is greatly determined by heredity, so if you are concerned about being too tall, look at other family members to get an idea about the average height within your own family. Otherwise, talk with your family physician if you have any concerns about your growth rate.

Hi Nicole,

The average weight for an individual is based on their sex, height, weight (that is why we used two different grids for the article). In reference to your question, do breasts and curves factor into this? Yes, that is why there is a different average weight for girls than boys. Of course, we are all made differently, some are a little more curvy than others. :) If you feel you are disproportional in any area, discuss it with your physician. They have plenty of experience with people of every shape and size and can address your concerns appropriately.

I think I am over weight. I am 5'0 and 145 pounds. My question is, Are breasts and curves a huge factor on weight? Thank you.

im 15 and 5'6 is my height normal....

Hi Sarah, thanks for all of your info. As you can probably tell by the grid in the article, you are taller than 50 percent of other girls your age. You also weigh slightly more than 50 percent of the girls in your age range. What this means- your height and weight is still proportional. If you have any questions, please see your physician. They can show you where you lie on their "averages" chart for girls in your age group. As I've told other girls who have worried about their weight, no one should tell you to diet except for your physician! Comparing yourself to other girls or models just creates unnecessary anxiety.

Hi Janel, without knowing your height, I can't guess if 115 is a good weight for you. What I can tell you is that the information written in our article is an average (50th percentile) of all kids within a hight, age and weight range. No one should tell you that you need to diet except your doctor. Many things are factored into whether a person needs to diet or not, including their medical history, height, weight and age. Please talk with your physician if you feel you have a weight problem so that you can discuss a plan of action designed especially for you.

I am 12 years old and i will be 13 in 3 months i weigh about 115 pounds. Is that considered good?

-- Contributed by: Janel

Hi Tiffiany, without knowing your height, I can only guess that your weight is probably within the normal range for your age. Only your doctor should tell you if you need to diet though. If you are really concerned, make an appointment for a physical (or have your parent make the appointment for you) with your primary care physician to discuss your height and weight.

hi well i weigh 125 pounds and I will be 18 in 5 months. Should I diet?

-- Contributed by: tiffiany

Hi Jessica, Since you didn't give your age, I can't tell you exactly what you should weigh. It is normal for people to weigh a little more, or a little less than what is shown in the chart in this article. This chart shows the average height and weight for people in each particular age group. If you are concerned about your height and weight, discuss it with your primary care physician. They can give you the exact weight range that corresponds with your height.
