Hi Shyla,

The best way to get a babysitting job is to express your interest in a professional way. Simply say that you are interested in babysitting and if they ever need anyone to watch their children, you are available. It might help to mention any experience you have or any training you've done (such as First Aid/CPR). Remember to give them your phone number. Good luck.

Hi Jamie,

A better way to reach parents in your area looking for babysitters is to place ads on websites that are localized to your area. You might want to try Craigslist or putting flyers up in grocery stores or other places parents frequent. Good luck...

Hi Kelsey,

Have you look into babysitting for some of your family friends or neighbors? Try making up some flyers as suggested in this article to find a babysitting job!

Hi Italy,

Babysitting at 12 is a decision your parents as well as the parents of the children you will be babysitting will have to make. You can start spreading the word if your parents are okay with it and if someone is interested, you can then let him/her know how old you are and let the parents decide if you seem mature enough. Good luck getting started!

Hi Kaela,

This article has some good advice on what to include on your flyer: Simple information includes your name, phone number, website address, and perhaps a few quotes from past clients or other sorts of referential goodies. If you specialize in caring for a specific type of child (special needs, a specific age range, etc.) you can also consider adding that to your flyer. Good luck!

Hi Rida, Try advertising locally - that is one of the best ways to get a job where you live - with a flyer!

Hi Heather and Taylor, Try looking in your local newspaper for babysitting jobs. Ask around the neighborhood to see if anyone you know needs a babysitter. Post babysitting fliers around town so people know you're available.

Hi Katlin- follow the directions I gave Stacie in the comment below. Kids don't normally tear off these tabs- parents will be tearing them off. All that needs to be on them (minimum) is your name and phone number.

How do I make tear off tabs with my name on it but kid friendly?

-- Contributed by: KATLIN

Hi Stacie, Making tear off tabs is easy. Using a ruler, measure about 2 1/2 inches from the bottom of the page and draw a horizontal line there across the paper. Next, measure the length of the page and divide it equally, making little marks on the horizontal line. Each little tab you are creating should be about a 1/2 inch wide. Once you have marked off your tabs, make vertical lines that extend from your horizontal line to the bottom of the page. The next step, after you have written your name and phone number in the tabs is to cut the tabs on the vertical lines you have drawn. This will create the tabs. It should look like fringe on the bottom of the page when you are done.

As for making the fliers kid-friendly, I wouldn't worry too much about this. Most parents do the selecting of baby sitters- kids aren't usually involved in finding a babysitter.

Hi, I am going to put up fliers at local parks in my neighborhood. How do I make tear off tabs with my phone number on it and should I make it seem kid friendly.

Hi Helen, I'm going to give you the same advice I gave Brittany before you...

Fliers should be clearly written, typed or done on the computer for the best impact. Use your spell checker to make sure you don't make any spelling errors. Avoid using IM/Text speak- most parents don't like having to read it. Capitalize all of your words in the right places too.

On your flier, be sure to include what you want to do, the days/hours you are available, your experience (if any) and the amount you charge. Provide your name and phone number in little tear-off tabs at the bottom of your flier.

That is just about all you need to have on your flier. One last word of advice- if you have a sexually suggestive email address, don't use it on your flier. Parent's aren't likely to bother contacting someone with a questionable email address. Good luck!

Please help me. I need to create a flyer and not sure where to start.

Hi Brittany, Basically, your flyer should be clearly written, typed or done on the computer for the best impact. Use your spell checker to make sure you don't make any spelling errors. Avoid using IM/Text speak- most parents don't like having to read it. Capitalize all of your words in the right places too.

On your flyer be sure to include what you want to do, the days/hours you are available, your experience (if any) and the amount you charge. Provide your name and phone number in little tear-off tabs at the bottom of your flyer. That's about it! Good luck!

Wow! I was just practicing what I would write and it is horrible! A little advice please.

-- Contributed by: Brittany

Taylor, Your flyer should include your name and phone number and perhaps your photo. Explain the services that you offer and the times you are available. At the bottom of the flyer have some tear off tabs with your name and phone number so people can pull one off to take with them.

Please make sure to use your spell check feature in your word processor on the computer, or if you hand write the flyer, check your spelling carefully. Using text message language or poor grammar is a real turn off to parents looking for a babysitter.

Hi Jasmine, Have you tried making babysitting flyers yet? That is one sure-fire way to get a few leads on babysitting jobs- follow the tips in our article for good places to post them. Also ask your parents if they know someone who needs a babysitter- they are probably your best bet, especially if they have lots of friends with small kids. Good luck!

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Hi Krystina, You need to get the word out that you want to babysit; people won't know you want to do it unless you spread the word first! Start by talking with your parents; they may know someone who needs a babysitter. Second, make flyers and post them around town. Finally, take a few babysitting courses- the instructors usually know people who need a few good babysitters- especially if they finish the course successfully. Good luck!

I'm 13 and I'm very mature for my age, but I really need a job. I love working with little kids and babysitting except I don't know how to get parents to let me babysit. Can you please help me?
