Paganism and Wicca are not at all satanic. It's a nature-based loving religion. The misunderstood pentagram means earth water air fire and the Holy Spirit (or divine) surrounded by love. The misconception is that Goths are satanic pagains. It's that people think pagans are satanic. They are not.

I would like to clarify something. As a wearer of the Gothic Lolita clothing, I would like to point out that this style really has NO TIES to the western goth movement.

It originated in Japan from the flux of Visual Kei bands as a way to dress like and emulate many of the favorite band members, who wear elaborate stage costumes and often borrow fashion elements from the Victorian era.

Not goth. At all.

Um. Excuse me, but were you by any chance connecting Wicca with devil worshipping? ""Another misconception is that goths are devil worshipers. While some wearers of goth fashion do consider themselves pagan or practice wicca,"" ?

This was a very helpful site :D

You can find gothic clothing locally if your lucky enough to have those types of stores in town or you can order catalogs from the above mentioned stores in the article. (Follow the blue highlighted links).

How can I find the right stores that sell gothic clothing?

-- Contributed by: hi

Hi Casey, We don't have any catalogs to send to you. Please visit the shopping links under the "Shopping" subtitle in the above article. Many of these merchants have catalogs that you can request directly from them.

-- Contributed by: Charlotte Gerber

Can you please send me a catalogue? Thanks.

Hi Kipsie, Most businesses that offer the catalogs not only accept credit card payments, they also accept checks and money orders too.

I'm not a goth, and don't usually wear all black, but i'm just curious to see what I can find. I'm unable to use my mom's Credit Card, so online shopping is almost impossible for me! Are there catalogues (yeah, I checked the free catalogue page) or sites that accept mailed money or money orders (even checks!)? The thrift shop/vintage store idea sounds great. Now i'll just have to figure out a way to convince my parents into going into there instead of the mall.

Hi Kena, We don't have any catalogs here at LoveToKnow. Please check some of the links within this article for the Goth clothing stores. Those stores may have catalogs that you can request directly from the merchant.

Hi Andrew,

Finding affordable goth clothing for guys can be a challenge, especially if you are shopping on the Internet. If you are looking for some cool goth clothing for prom, start with a frock coat. These can be found at GoodGoth. GoodGoth also has some cool shoes/boots- pick something that is comfortable if you'll be on your feet all evening.

Now, for shirts & slacks- try furtrader, pressman, pirate or poet style shirts if you're going for the romantic goth look; otherwise, there are virtually tons of graphic tees that you can choose from to wear under a more formal coat. These can be found at GoodGoth and Blanches Place

There are lots of pant styles to choose from- try one of the many styles of stretch jeans found at Find Cool Clothes and The Dark Tomb.

Don't forget accessories! They can really make an outfit. Try guys armor rings or Dark Side necklaces or even a cool walking stick. Many of the websites I mentioned carry these kinds of accessories.

Don't forget to check out thrift and vintage clothing stores in your area. You may be surprised at the great finds and reasonable prices you will there.

Good luck at your prom and happy shopping!

Any goth clothing that i can wear for my prom night?

I think the way this is phrased it implies that Devil worship and Paganism are the same. Which is obviously ridiculous and offensive.

You don't "go goth". You don't "GO" anything. You don't "go" gay... "go" lesbian... "Go" punk... "Go" this/that. It's asinine; could you say that you're going to "go" (a certain race)/female/male? No, because that's just foolish. You're only lying to yourself and in actuality, you're not making any damn statement. In this day and age, there are only improvements of those that already exist.

Could you IDENTIFY with certain aspects of whatever trend? Sure. Why not? Again, if you're going to label yourself and other people, you're only ignorant. There's more that meets the eye than the colour or someone's shirt or their physical features. Realize that physical features are only temporary. (Think about it-- it's conceivable).

Just be yourself, thanks.

I must say I sincerely appreciate all the opinions expressed here about Goth. Certainly it can be a complicated issue, so it has been nice to gather some intelligent discussions!

This article is stupid. It's an outsiders view of goth. To really get an idea of what goth really is, you need to read something written by an INSIDER! I really really don't like what this article has to say at all. It's too vague;there are so many more reasons why teens "go goth" than they don't want to be mainstream or they just like the dark look. And by the way, not every goth wears black, though black is a main color! And not everyone who wears black is goth!

I am a goth and i must say that i disagree and im offended by this article. I agree with the things that were said by Abigail about gothic being a subculture that is more than just a fashion trend. also, a few particular parts of the artical that i had problems with were these: "Hot Topic has influenced the creation of a more pedestrian version of gothic fashion. With their brick-and-mortar stores, going goth is as easy as traveling to the nearest mall. Their clothing a mix of gothic and punk styles, sprinkled with a bit of pop culture, for a slightly sanitized version of the goth look." First of all, hot topic is a chain store thats main goal is to make money off of ignorant "rebellious" teenagers because they know that they will spend money just to look diffrent for the sake of looking diffrent. Hot topic has no reguard for real punk and gothic fashion. it is just another big company stealing the money from the parents of stupid teenagers who dress in black clothing because "the rocker look is in these days". and by the way, being a mall goth is considered an insult. second of all, gothic lolita is NOT a subset of gothic clothing, it is a subset of lolita clothing. aside from the use of darker colors, it has little to do with western gothic culture at all.

I have t say this is the most disturbing thing I've read on the internet... and it's the *internet*

Although I compleatly agree with everything the article has to say I have to add my bit here. I consider myself part of the Gothic subculture. I am proud of that, but the whole dark-hair-pale-skin thing can be overdone, and it is very easy to do. First off, no matter how tempting it seems, don't use make-up to make your skin appear paler. Most people make this mistake (at least at my school) and they stop the color at their neckline. This looks compleatly fake and not very many people are going to take you seriously. Another mistake most people make (once again referring to my school) is, once the clothes change, they change their personalities as well. Gothic is a philosophy. Not every Goth cuts, has bad grades, or has an 'oh the angst of it all' attitude. If you see people staring on the street, don't give them reason to think you're a serial killer. Stand up straight, smile, and don't let what you're wearing dictate how people see you, just use your clothing to bring out a style that you feel comfortable in. Last but not least, black is a staple of Gothic clothing, but try some color to break it up. dark purples, blues, greys and even shades of green and pink can add a lot to an otfit if you give it a chance.

I am true Goth, and have been for many, many years. I will let you know that I was slightly offended by this article. Goth is a subculture, a beautiful and complex one at that, NOT a teen's fashion style that they can decide to wear all at once. Yes, the Gothic culture does have a distinct look, but here you are exploiting our subculture by making it nothing but a fashion trend. One cannot become Goth, one is born with the goth personality. What is that, you ask? Goths are very intelligent and open minded people who are very creative and love different forms of art, ususally of darker tone. Goths love to learn and question the unknown, and we explore those realms which most people either never think about or are too afraid to. Most people don't have the sense of wonder to be Goth!

So...before you go and post something on Goth, I suggest you do some research. Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
