Purplepokadot,
Try your local newspaper, community center or walk around your town and see who is hiring. If you have some things you can do such as babysitting, mowing lawns or other chores, you can make up some flyers and post them to find a job that way. Good luck.

-- Contributed by: ?????Hi Oceana,
You can work some types of jobs at 14. For more information on jobs check out our Teen Jobs section!

-- Contributed by: oceanaAaron, It depends on what you want to do, and what business you are applying at. In most states, you have to be 15 or 16 to work for a business, but you can be an entrepreneur at any age.

-- Contributed by: savannahI want a job after school.
-- Contributed by: Adolfo ArroyoParents should let teens do more babysitting because it teaches them how to take care of children when they get older and they learn more responsibility.
-- Contributed by: jasmineHi LCO, Have you read our article, List of Cool Jobs? It has dozens of ideas of jobs for teens 13 and up- and not just babysitting.
-- Contributed by: Charlotte GerberI'm 14 and have visited almost every job teen site there is, and they all say the same thing: babysitting. I like to babysit, but there's a daycare up my street, and another one on the next street. I also like animals, but I can't find a job where a parent has to be with me the whole time. Help!
-- Contributed by: L.C.O.Hi Ray, It would be difficult for you to get a paying job, or even a volunteer job, without a parent on site with you while you're working at your age. However, you may be able to tutor other kids. Advertise your services on bulletin boards around town- the library, bank, town hall- anywhere that allows you to put up a flyer with your first name, phone number and services offered.
-- Contributed by: Charlotte GerberI'm 14 and hoping to get a part-time job with animals. What should i do?Due to some cir...stances i'm not able to work as a dog walker. I wouldn't mind being a maths tutor for primary school kids.

Start by visiting the local nursing homes in your area. Show your interest in getting started and ask how you can help. Most elder and nursing care facilities would enjoy some youthful energy. You may have to volunteer first before you can actually get employment, but then again, you may not. The important step is to get out there and let them know you are interested.
-- Contributed by: Debbie VasenI am looking for a job in the nursing home industry for teenagers.
-- Contributed by: JoannaHi Alex, The colleges you apply to will be looking at the jobs you worked at to see if it has anything to do with the career path you are considering. So, don't choose just any job! A volunteer position may be a better choice, especially if it is in line with your career path (and volunteer positions are usually a little easier to come by!). If you volunteer, just check around the local organizations in your area to see if they need help- hospitals, libraries, youth organizations, Habitat for Humanity and the like. As for paying jobs, take a look in your local newspaper- preferably the Saturday and Sunday editions help-wanted sections.

-- Contributed by: reginaHi Anna, I don't have any papers on what to charge per hour for babysitting. The going rate is between 6-10 per hour. You may be able to charge more if you do other things besides babysitting, such as doing housework. Check out our article, Information About Babysitting for details on what to charge and when. Good luck!
-- Contributed by: Charlotte GerberHello my name is Anna and I'm 12 years old. I call myself a teen. Right now I am already planning my career jobs. When I am 14 years old I want to start babysitting just to earn extra money. I want to be a pediatrician when I grow up so im trying real hard to get good grades. When I want to work as a babysitter, I would want about 10-20$ an hour. The reason I picked babysitting is because I love kids. Do you have any papers that you can email me about how much you can make an hour? Thank You. I appreciate it.
-- Contributed by: anna bI love to look after kids.
-- Contributed by: renitaHi Rosalyn, I know it is difficult finding work when you are young, especially when you have a noble cause like helping your family. While people would probably love to hire you, the laws prevent it. The thought behind this is that you should be focusing on your school work, not making money to pay household bills. So, if you really want to work after school, you'll need to be creative and create your own jobs in your town. As I've stated before, typical jobs can be babysitting, house cleaning, tutoring, dog walking, snow shoveling and anything else you can think of. Use our article, Babysitting Flyers for ideas for posting and creating flyers for any type of job. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors!
-- Contributed by: Charlotte GerberHi Brittany, please don't depend on this website/comments area to help you land a job in your area. If you are serious about finding a part-time job and you are under 16, you probably will have to "create" your own job. How about tutoring? You could also babysit or house clean after school. Post flyers in your town (check out our article, Babysitting Flyers to get ideas). Good luck and hang in there!
-- Contributed by: Charlotte GerberHi Mariyah, Please contact WIC in your area if you are having trouble getting the things your baby needs. They can help you with food, formula, diapers and other basic necessities. It would be very difficult to find a job with a six month old, but they can help get you back on your feet and perhaps point you in the right direction to get a part time job. Good luck!
