Hi Amanda, I weighed 105 when I was 17- so I don't think what you weigh is as important as how healthy you are (I ran 8 miles a day, 5 days a week!). If you're worried about your weight, I suggest seeing your family doctor for advice.

Now, for the clothes problem. Since your parents are buying your clothes, and you're still on the young side, you're going to have to compromise when it comes to clothes. Perhaps you can agree to wear a few preppy pieces of clothes, in exchange for a few pieces of trendy stuff? Try talking with your mom before you go shopping so you don't end up fighting at the store. While there aren't any particular stores where they sell both preppy and trendy, so why not going to a mall? You'll find the best of both worlds there.

Besides being worried about my weight (95 pounds at 12), I always fight with my mom. We can't agree on ANYTHING! I have completely different taste i clothing than her. She loves beyond preppy clothes, and I like a more trendy hip style.... ARgh i hate fighting with her are there any stores you know of where we can both agree

Hi Kayleigh, Only your doctor can say if you are in the right weight range or not. If you have concerns, please speak with your doctor first.

I am 11, but weigh 7 and a half stone. Is this normal puppy fat or am I overweight?

FilipinoAsian,

At a height of 5'3" and 105 to 115 pounds, you are already pretty slim. If you feel self-conscience about your stomach, you may just need to build up muscle tone instead. My advice would be stop worrying about how much you weigh and instead focus on exercise and weight lifting. Always talk to your parents and doctor before beginning any exercise routine. Then get out and talk to a personal trainer or your PE teacher at your school for some good techniques.

Okay, so I'm very consious about my body. I'm not really fat, but I am really chubby. People say I'm skinny, but they never really see my stomach because I don't wear tight clothing or such. I'm turning 13 in August. My height is 5'3. I weigh about 105-115. Is there anyway where I can become skinner?

Hi Najma, you didn't say how old you are, but if you are young you shouldn't diet unless your doctor has given you the okay. You're body is still growing and dieting could cause irreversible health problems. My advice is to first speak with your physician about this. He or she can give you the okay to start an exercise program and maybe refer you to a nutritionist to get you going on the right track.

I am F.A.T. I am like the biggest and tallest in my class. I tried to go on a diet, but that didn't work and I don't want to be T.H.E O.B.E.S.E G.I.R.L. for the rest of my life. What should I do?

Hi Foreshalaquonda, Having a flat chest at 13 or 14 isn't unusual. Some people don't start developing until they are 16 or even 17. Don't worry- your body will eventually start catching up to those of your peers. If you want to get an idea of your "expected" chest size, look around at your close relatives- your mom and aunts. You'll probably have a chest size that is something like theirs.

Hi Angel,

I know it is hard, but you need to wait for your body to develop at its' own pace. Don't rush being an adult...enjoy being a pre-teen for a while. You'll be an adult soon enough! If you simply can't wait, consider buying bras, like the Victoria's Secret water bra, if your parents will let you.

Hi Michelle,

Most people, both girls and boys, stop growing in their early 20's, at the very latest. Puberty ends when your body stops developing; girls grow breasts, pubic hair and underarm hair; boy's testicles develop and they grow pubic, chest and underarm hair. Boys also have their voices change- they become deeper. This usually subsides in both sexes a year or two after they start developing sexually.

Since everyone is different, we all go through puberty at different times, some as early as 9 or 10, and others as old as 16 or 17.

When do we stop growing or going through puerty?

Hi Bridget,

PMS-ing is the period before your period. Some people experience extreme fluctuations in their hormones during this time. Symptoms include bloating, irritability, headaches and body aches. This can be treated with over the counter medications, or if your symptoms are severely interfering with your life, prescriptions can be given by your primary care physician or gynecologist.

If you are having problems with PMS or your period, talk with your doctor or gynecologist. They know your medical history and they can help you deal with any problems you may be experiencing.
