Hi Anna, If you have a gym membership, I would start there and ask to speak with a trainer that has experience with sports injuries. They could help you design a work-out program that strengthens your body while being mindful of the injury. As for diet, I'm only guessing that you were an avid athlete before the injury. Consume fewer calories until you get an exercise program going that requires that you eat more calories. Speaking from personal experience, it is really easy to fall into a rut and start watching life from the comfort of your couch. However, all the junk food in the world won't make you feel better about yourself. If you dread going back to the gym just yet, try renting some exercise videos first (Netflix is pretty good too), and make some progress at home before returning to the gym. I guarantee you'll feel better about yourself if you take those first steps towards a more active lifestyle (again!). Hang in there! Hi Speakerphone, Stop dieting. Period. Diets don't work, only changes in your entire lifestyle will. I suspect your weakness has more to do with poor nutrition than anything else. You don't have to lift weights and go to the gym to become more fit and lose weight. Just walking for about 20 minutes in the evening after dinner can help speed up your metabolism and help you maintain or lose weight. Please stop obsessing about your weight and find a new hobby. If you don't, you may cause irreparable harm to your body while it is developing, including not reaching your full height.

Ever since my injury, my sports metabolism has slowed way down. I have gained about 40 pounds in 3 years, and my eating habits just seem to get worse and worse. I have a gym membership, but I don't use it that often. Do you have specific work outs I could do, and advice on where to read up on healthier eating habits?

I am obsessed with losing weight. I've tried every week to go on a diet and exercise, but it will only last between 1-3 days and then I eat whenever I'm hungry - that is every 30 minutes, which is ridiculous. I don't know what to do or what diet I should go on. I'm 15 and I don't want to exercise that much as I am quite weak. I just want to know what diet I should go on and I am 8 stone and quite petite. I always have to stand next to my friends who are model skinny and it makes me feel insecure about my weight. I need help now!

Hi Lauren, You should see your doctor right away. Gaining 10 pounds in 2 weeks is certainly cause for alarm.

I'm 5'4" and I recently started taking birth control pills, not because I'm sexually active, but for my acne & headaches and very bad cramps.

About two weeks ago when I first started taking bcp's Iwas about 110 lbs and was happy with that. I felt slim and confident in what I wore.

Yet, now 2 weeks later I'm 120 and not sure if it is the bcp's or if I'm growing, but I have felt very hungry lately and I know some people may not think thats over weight, but that is how I feel about myself now.

I've started going to the gym and I'm trying to get better but what should I do?

Hi Troubled Girl, My question would be whether or not you are obsessing about your weight (in regards to depression). If all you can think about is your looks, to the detriment of your relationships, school and family, then I would advise seeking help from a counselor. If you are simply just tired of being a little overweight, that can be a little easier to remedy. A little exercise goes a long way, so it needs to be incorporated into any healthy lifestyle change. Whether you only walk 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week, or do other things like roller blading, jogging or Pilates, it all will help you reach your weight goal. The other part of a healthy lifestyle is eating right. Please check out our Diet channel (follow this link) for tips and diets that can help you reach that goal.

I am a 15 years old and I have trouble with depression. Alot well, most of my depression is from over obbsessing about my looks. I've never once in my life thought that i was pretty and i especially dont think that I am slim enough. I am 5' exactly and I weigh 123 pounds. i think this is too much for my height. I need a simple diet and exercise plan that is easy to do and keep. please help me. thank you

No name,

By simply coming here and leaving this comment, you have made a huge first step. Congrats!

The next step is to actually go for help. I first recommend you talk to your doctor or counselor at school. They are both people who know you well and can find immediate local resources to help.

I would also like you to visit LoveToKnow's Recovery site. There are some great articles on anorexia there.

Hey, I've been doing select soccer since I was 5 and basketball since I was 9 and now I'm doing both in highschool. I'm not fat, but I don't eat the right foods. I eat junky foods. I want to get a food schedule for the week but can't find one on the Internet.

Hi Rae, In order to lose weight you have to consume fewer calories than you burn each day. Perhaps you haven't changed your eating habits, even though you are keeping a pretty hectic exercise schedule. Usually the best diets for athletes combine protein (lean meats), carbs (whole grains) and lots of veggies and fruits. Try keeping track of your calorie consumption to get an idea of how much you are eating. Write down everything- this means you'll have to start reading the labels on all of the foods you are eating. Once you have an idea how many calories you are eating, you can see where you are consuming too many calories and start eliminating some of those foods. A good place to start is cutting out sugary foods, diet sodas and junk foods from vending machines. Ask your librarian to see if she has any books on nutrition- that could help you understand what kinds of foods an athlete should be eating to maintain lean muscle. Good luck!

I run and I mean a lot. 2 miles in 9 minutes each. I do push-ups (100) and crunches (500) all most everyday and I've been active my whole life. And I'm doing this for lacrosse to stay in shape and i've been doing this for at least two years now, ever since i started high school. No matter what I do, I can not lose any weight. It has stayed in the same place for about three years and its getting on my nerve because I need to lose about 3o lbs. and I don't know where to start. I've talked to my doctor and she has said it would be fine to start diet. But i don't know where to begin...

Hi Tyler, Try taking walks after dinner, for at least 20 minutes. Brisk walking increases your metabolism and that helps you burn more calories. As with any exercise program though, be sure to check with your doctor before starting a diet or new exercise regimen. Good luck!
