Hi Daria, Have you tried looking for jobs at theme parks and chain restaurants? They usually hire people for the summer. Internships are unusual for someone your age, so you'll probably have trouble finding one. You could also try your local YMCA, YWCA or your local park and recreation departments as they usually look for people to watch children during the summer. Don't forget to check out local summer camps too- they may need daytime camp counselors (you could put your computer talents to work there). Finally, local animal shelters may need some volunteers to help care for the animals and socialize them.

My name is Daria. I'm 16 and am having a hard time finding a job in CA near me. I would love to do an internship, but it seems impossible to find one for a 16 year old. I need a job or internship for this summer, otherwise I have to do school. I love kids, computers, and animals. I am tech savy, compassionate, kind, persevering, and focused individual. Hope you can help! Thanks, Daria

Hi Morgan, Well, I think working for a business is still out of the question- most states require you to be 15. So, in order to earn some bucks you'll have to get creative and find something that you like to do, but not babysitting! Have you checked out our article, List of Cool Jobs? It lists dozens of things that young teens can do if they have the desire to start their own little enterprise. Think of all of the things that you do well, even if it doesn't seem important. Programming cell phones, cleaning homes (I did this in HS and made good money with my own biz), mowing lawns, planting gardens, pet sitting, house sitting....the list goes on and on! Good luck! Let me know if you need help with starting your biz up.

Hi Charlotte, Well I'm 14 years old and would like to look for a job this summer, to give me something to do and so that I can earn a little money. Do you have any ideas? I've done babysitting and it's not really my forte, just to let you know.

-Morgan.

Hi Kendra, Unfortunately, this website doesn't do job placements. You'll have to find a job the old fashioned way- either look in the paper for a job, check out local help wanted job boards at your bank, library or in store windows or just ask around. We'll have a new expert interview posted on this site towards the end of the month- a person who knows a lot about teen jobs. Check the main page of this Teens site to get lots of tips then!

Hi Anne, Since I live in the U.S., I have no idea what the laws are in Ireland. Check with your parents or simply inquire as to the age requirements at the businesses at which you wish to work for.

Hi Shawanda, it is always good to plan ahead! However, most places that hire summer help aren't hiring just yet. They usually start hiring in the spring. Around March, start checking out the want ads in your local paper or surrounding towns where you might want to work. You may also call the companies directly in Spring to find out when they will start hiring. Don't wait until June or all the good jobs will be gone!

Hi Kiyona,

You have two options- either look for a job in the newspaper or help wanted ads around town, or you can be an entrepreneur and create your own job. You can also check in your favorite retail stores and ask the manager directly whether they have any jobs available (whether or not there is a help wanted sign in the window!)

Make sure you take your school schedule into consideration before taking on any retail/restaurant jobs- that includes any future activities, such as sports or other clubs, that you may be interested in.
